Walk Of Life – Day 25, September 2022 – Thoughts From The Book Of Psalms

Psalm 63 – God’s Love Better Than Life

This Psalm of David was composed when he was in the desert of Judah. Although the timeline of this psalm is not certain, it could be during the wilderness years when he was hunted by King Saul.

  • Joy in knowing God – David starts this psalm by making a declaration that Yahweh is his God whom he depends on, trusts and long to be with everyday in his life. In the wilderness, he remembers enjoying the presence of God in the temple and thirsts for the same in the desert. In his hardship he had developed a spiritual maturity which made him understand that one can enjoy being in his presence in spirit and truth no matter wherever a person is.
  • Joy of having communion with God – David finds that there is nothing better than having loving kindness of God in your life. World offers you honour, wealth, fame, prosperity, social status etc but it can never satisfy you compared to the joy in communion with God through prayer and worship. This coming from the man who tasted success like no other motivates us to seek first his kingdom and his righteousness” following which “all these things will be given to you as well” Matthew 6:33
  • Joy in meditating God’s Word – David shows great amount of praise and devotion to God in gratitude even though his physical condition was very bad at that time. In the dry desert where he had no hope of survival, David felt that time was too short for him, so he spent time in God’s presence day and at night.
  • Joy in being protected by God – David always loved and sought God and trusted him to protect him like a bird shelters her young chicks under her wings. He believed that God would subdue his conspirers and will completely silence them such that they will be laid waste like the food for nocturnal prowlers like jackals. He put his faith in God’s love towards him that his kingdom will be established forever.

The question you have today is, am I spending enough time in God’s presence everyday? Am I conversing with God and worshiping him regularly? You are living in an uncertain time, where death passes by every moment around you irrespective of your age in form of sickness, accidents, heart attacks, deadly diseases like cancer. Before it’s too late, take every opportunity to spend time meditating on the scriptures, for days are evil.
