Walk of Life – Day 2 – Thoughts from the Book of Proverbs
Proverbs 2:11 – Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee.
All of us want to be safe. We lock the doors at night, ensure that we take all safety precautions on the road, exercise regularly, eat a balanced diet, avoid visiting dangerous places, and the list is endless. We ensure not just we, but all whom we love are safe and protected.
These efforts will keep your body safe, but what about your soul. Proverbs 2:11 says that discretion and understanding will keep you safe.
Discretion, in other words, is discernment. Discretion knows what needs to be done, how it should be done, and when it should be done. Now a days, it has become very difficult to judge what is right and what is wrong as everything appears to be good and there seems to be a very fine line between the right and the wrong. We need to have the quality of discretion to be saved from this wicked world. If we believe in everything that we come across without checking it in the light of God’s Word, we are for sure going to be doomed and led astray with it.
Understanding is perceiving a situation, the dangers hidden, and deciding the right thing to do. The fountain of all wisdom, understanding, and discretion is the Lord Himself. By studying and learning God’s Word, you will know how to react to any situation.
Daniel had an excellent spirit. Daniel 5: 12 (ESV) says” because an excellent spirit, knowledge, and understanding to interpret dreams, explain riddles, and solve problems were found in this Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar.” He feared God, he was not afraid of any man. He knew how to live in that pagan land and the king acknowledged that he had an excellent spirit.
Excellence in everything is what all of us seek for. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, the knowledge of the Holy is understanding.”
The more you know the Lord Jesus personally, the more His qualities will be reflected in you and the better you can discern and have discretion in whatever you do.
Do you know the Lord Jesus personally?
Have you asked Him to give you Wisdom and understanding?
Will you spend more time in knowing Him as only that can make you wise?
