Walk Of Life – Day 25, April 2023 – Thoughts From The Book Of Psalms

Psalm 150 – Where, Why And How To Praise God

Each of the five divisions of the Book of Psalms closes with a doxology (Psalm41:13, 72:18-19, 89:52, 106:48). This entire psalm can be seen as a doxology that not only closes the fifth and final volume of the collected psalms, but also closes the entire Book of Psalms. This psalm contains no argument, no real teaching and no real explanation. It is an eloquent, passionate cry to all creation to give Yahweh the praise due to Him.

Where should you praise God?

  • Remember the prayer what Lord Jesus taught his disciples, Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6:9, 10. It is the last part of this prayer that God has been trying to establish on earth. Heaven is a perfect place where every command is executed in perfect order by the angelic begins. What He established in the Garden of Eden was just a minute fragment of that perfect order through which He wanted to enjoy fellowship with his creation, as He had given freewill to man which was not given to angels. But that was corrupted by Satan (fallen angel) who deceived Eve and led her and Adam to disobey God.
  • God’s effort to re-establish that order through the Law given to Moses is evident in the history of mankind. The tabernacle where the Ark of the Covenant which represents God’s power on earth is kept, building of an altar, sacrifices offered on it, the altar of incense, lampstand, the table, God’s presence filling the sanctuary were all a minute glimpse of God’s glory.

So, Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens.

Why should we praise God?

  • One cannot imagine the true power of God, what we see is limited to earth. With advance technology scientists have discovered many celestial bodies around the Solar System which exists in the Milky Way galaxy which contains around 200-400 stars. But his mighty works extends in the universe, galaxies having millions, or more frequently billions, of stars of its own.
  • The Jewish patriarchs could witness his acts of power when they saw his hands inflicting plagues on the Egyptians and when He parted the Red Sea so that his chosen children could be free from the bondage of slavery.
  • God has done marvelous deeds for his children from time to time but his surpassing greatness was displayed when He chose to send his son(Jesus Christ) to earth to become the ultimate sacrifice for the atonement of the sins of all mankind and thereby redeeming them from the bondage of sins and to reunite them to the Father.

So with a thankful heart, “Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness.

How should we praise God?

  • John saw in a vision how the one who sits enthroned in Heaven (God the Father) was worshiped by the four living creatures and the twenty- four elders who would lay their crown before the throne and worshiped him. Revelation 4:8, 11
  • Then he saw that He carried a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals in his right hand. He waited for the one worthy to break and open the seal. A lamb who appeared as if it had been slain (resurrected and ascended Lord Jesus) stood worthy and took the scroll from the right hand of God. And all the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb and worshiped by singing a new song, holding harp and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people. Revelation 5:9,10
  • And angelic beings in uncountable numbers encircled the throne, the living creatures and the elders and worshiped the Lamb with a loud voice. Revelation 5:12
  • And every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, the four living creatures and the elders who fell prostrate worshipped the Lamb. Revelation 5: 13,14

If this is way The Father, Son and the Holy Spirit is worshipped in Heaven, then how much more as people redeemed by his grace should worship with trumpets, lute and harp timbrel and dance, with stringed instruments and flutes, loud and clashing cymbals.

Finally the psalmist ends with a doxology saying, Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.”
