Walk Of Life – Day 14, April 2023 – Thoughts From The Book Of Psalms

Psalm 147 – Be His Delight

This psalm is the second of the series of five final songs known as Hallelujah Psalms composed expressing the love and care God has shown towards his people and land that He has chosen to bear his name. The psalmist must have written this song when the exiles of Babylon would have returned to Jerusalem to rebuild the city and the temple of the LORD.

Delight to Rebuild – It was fitting to praise God with psalm who had moved the heart of the Persian King, Cyrus to rebuild the ruins of Jerusalem. He made a decree that all those whose heart God has moved can go to Jerusalem and build the temple of God and his city. He also made provisions for the Israelites to receive articles of silver, gold, goods, livestock, valuable gifts in addition to the freewill offering which every citizen was instructed to give their Jewish neighbor who would leave to rebuild their homeland. All the articles that King Nebuchadnezzar had taken during the conquest was also accounted for and returned to King Sheshbazzar, the prince of Judah.

Delight to Bestow -What a faithful God is He who enables even the oppressor to favor his children when they chose to remain obedient to his commandment. His understanding is beyond limit and He created all that you see and calls them by name. The life cycle and food chain is created in such a way that all He has created survives and are provided for. As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is his word that goes out from his mouth: It will not return to him empty, but will accomplish what He desire and achieve the purpose for which He sent, Isaiah 55: 10,11. This is the care that He shows for his creation.

Above all, “His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor his delight in the legs of the warrior; the Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love.” Verse 11.

Delights to Bless – His delight is not in your power or position, richness or status and definitely not in your strength. Every work that you do irrespective of office or church has its reward. Even though your labor is not in vain in the Lord, He will still searches your inmost thoughts to see if they are clean, examines the true serving attitude of your heart to see if you will show love without favouritism, will test if you are willing to go an extra mile for the needy and finally will bless those whose prayer reaches like an aroma before his throne.

So decide, whom you will serve this day, the worldly kingdom or the heavenly kingdom. The Bible says how the LORD let his temple be destroyed by King Nebuchadnezzar and sent his children to exile to Babylon till they attained an undivided heart towards him. His action cried out loud conveying that his interest in not in external glory, but He is glorified when his children make their internal as the temple of Living God. Only then God blessed them with prosperity, riches and rebuilt their ruins to once again become a great nation.

Delights in his Chosen – Blessed are they of all the earth for they are chosen by God to be his people who would follow his precepts. Even more blessed are those who have believed Lord Jesus to be their Messiah and have been chosen to accomplish his work on earth.

He as promised to be with them till the end of days, Matthew 28:20. Be blessed!!
