Walk of Life – Day 5 – Thoughts from the Book of Proverbs
Proverbs 5:13 (NLT): Oh, why didn’t I listen to my teachers? Why didn’t I pay attention to my instructors?
Regret is good to an extent as long as we learn from it and do not repeat our mistakes. However, always giving place for regrets makes one depressed and downcast. It is wiser for anyone to avoid regrets after accepting the Lord Jesus as his/her personal savior. Usually our disappointments come when we do not respond to the Holy Spirit’s call or disobey our godly instructors.
Many times in the New Testament, we see the Lord Jesus being addressed as Rabbi, Teacher, master, and so on. Yes! He is our teacher, as mentioned in Psalm 32.8(a) “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;” He is our loving savior who created us to be victorious and enjoy an abundant life free from disappointments and worries.
“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” John 14.26 The Lord Jesus Christ, before leaving this world gave us the Holy Spirit who is our helper, teacher, and reminds us of what our Lord has spoken to us through the Word or heard from the teachings of many godly elders.
In Mathew 26.75 “Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: “Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly.” Though Peter loved the Lord Jesus, he disowned him thrice as the Lord Jesus predicted. When Peter heard the rooster crow, it brought the words of the Lord Jesus like a flash before him. He immediately realized his sin and he went out and wept bitterly.
Dear one in Christ, let us not make room for weeping bitterly in regret by making hasty decisions and let us also not cause pain to our Lord by disowning Him and rejecting the Holy Spirit’s reminders in this walk of life.
Our God always wants us to be an overcomer like the Lord Jesus and live a life without guilt in every trial, temptation, and test. Only when we allow Him to rule our heart and give our ear to listen to His ways through the Word of God and yield to the Holy Spirit’s instructions when you are tempted by evil desires, will this be possible. It is very important to store the Word of God in your heart so whenever you are tempted to sin…His word would alert you and you would obey His word and not deny Him.
Have you made the Lord Jesus your teacher and instructor for your life?
Whenever the Holy Spirit reminds you that it is wrong, are you yielding to the Holy Spirit or have you grieving the Spirit of God?
Are they leading you in the right path for the glory of God or seeking self gain?
