Walk of Life – Day 24 – July 2020 – Thoughts from the Book of Proverbs

Proverbs 24:10 If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small. (KJV)

During my childhood after learning to ride a bicycle, I wanted to ride on a steep downhill road so that the bicycle would just move easily without putting in much effort cycling I do not have to use up my energy. It used to be fun. However, usually I do not like a hilly road to bicycle which is very difficult and also on uneven or rough roads. As one needs to put in all their energy and strength to move ahead, it is a real challenge to ride on rough roads to determine one’s efficiency.

In life as well we do not like any difficulties or tough times…we wanted it to be just like the steep road easy going life without any hurdles. Be it personal, professional, or spiritual life, we face some hurdles some are easily passed on and some hurdles seem very difficult, in fact few take some years and some are still clueless.

The ability to overcome a steep road while bicycling depends on our physical strength and energy on the food that we eat and our determination. To overcome the difficulties and adversaries, we need strength in the inner man. And with what we feed so will our strength be, the more we fill our hearts and mind with the word of God and exercise faith, our inner man is strengthened and is made ready to face the adversaries in life.

When we are going through troubled times we usually get discouraged, speak words of discouragement like,” Why God is testing me? Doubting His nature? Is God with me?” such type of questions and we put down others around us also sometimes. Instead, if we rely on the promises that God had given us and gain strength and hope in the Lord and seek God in fasting prayers and supplication, fellowship of the saints and encouraging ourselves in the Lord as King David did, we can overcome our troubles with the Lord’s help according to His timing.

God is faithful it always seems like we are facing it alone but God in His mercy and grace holds us in His arms and crosses ever difficult path with us. He is afflicted in our afflictions. Let us hold to the promises of God and hope which anchors our soul.

Psalm 27: 13, 14

I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say on the LORD.

These days when you face a difficulty have you asked you spiritual elder to pray for you?

To whom are you running in your troubled times?

Are you claiming the promises God gave you in prayer?
