Walk of Life – Day 30 – July 2020 – Thoughts from the Book of Proverbs
Proverbs 30:7 ” Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die:”
These are the words which came from the mouth of Agur. Even we pray this prayer in our everyday life, but we do not stop at two. We require many things from the Lord. Is it not?
We often err in discerning between desires and needs or requirements. We mistake our desires as our requirements hence our prayer list becomes lengthy.
The requirements of Agur, which he wanted God to grant before his death were not for the fulfillment of his fleshy desires but to present himself blameless before God.
The first requirement ( verse 8) shows that he has a strong desire to lead a life of purity. He hath realized that this desire of his is a requirement to see the Lord. We read in Hebrews 12:14 that without holiness we cannot see God. Vanity and lies defile a person they do not let the person to continue in the right path. Vanity consumes the person’s time and lies deceive him and lead him away from truth.Once you are led away from the truth then what remains is just vanity.
The second requirement ( verse 8) shows his desire to be in a state of satisfaction. When we look into scriptures we do not see Moses calculating how much amount of food each person takes and asking God to shower that much amount of manna. We do not see the Lord Jesus Christ asking God to bless the 5 loaves and 2 fishes to a certain number to feed the public gathered there. Food is the requirement in both the cases. They have mentioned their need and God provided them.
Firstly we should learn what our requirements are. Frame your requirements based on your ultimate aim. When you are going for a running race, all you require is your sports uniform. You do not carry heavy things with you. As a Christian our goal is to meet our Lord and you need to know that His grace, holiness will be your requirements to meet Him.Hence leave every unnecessary thing in which you will be requiring God’s help.
Secondly, you are the son or the daughter of the most high God. You are given the authority to ask Him anything in the name of Lord Jesus Christ. Share your requirement or need or desire with God. Do not direct him in the procedure or quantity. He knows how much will be sufficient for you. In whatever that you receive from God be satisfied in it. it might look little to you today but remember His plans are greater than ours. There will surely be a day when you will look back and thank God for giving little.
Prayer:
Dear Lord,
Open my eyes to see my requirements. Let my requirements enable me to reach my ultimate aim. Help me to be satisfied and also to rejoice in whatever I receive from you. In the matchless name of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ I pray, Amen.
