Walk of Life – Day 27, September 2020 – Thoughts From The Book of Proverbs
Proverbs 27:7 “The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.”
Have you ever experienced the feeling of being full? When someone places your favorite dish before you after having a stomach-full meal, you do not feel like having anything else. No matter how delicious it is, it can never be fit into your belly at that very moment.
Now imagine that you had nothing for a couple of days. Someone sends you a dish which you dislike. Would you be refusing it? No, you will have it and enjoy while having it.
When we examine both the cases, what made you eat the food which you dislike? It is the hunger in you. Hunger does not see the appearance or the taste of the food being served.
When we apply this to our spiritual life, we can realize that we as the children of God should hunger for the Word of God. We might be attending many big gatherings, convocations, and youth fests organized by the servants of God. Most of the times, we might feel that the messages are being repeated or not much effective. There are many who complain about the above. If you truly introspect, you will know that it is not the speaker’s fault but it is your fault. You have lost the hunger towards the Word of God.
Why did we lose the hunger for God’s word? It is because our soul is already full with many other things which leave no space for the Word of God to enter in. We are filled with vain gossips, wrong doctrines, and unnecessary arguments. All these keep us in an illusion that we are working for Christ. However, the truth is that they keep us full and make us reject the Word of God. When we look into the verse from Proverbs, we find the one who stamps on honeycomb because he is already full. Even today you might be full with all vain things and that is why you are rejecting the precious Word of God by calling it repeated or ineffective.
Empty yourself. Only then you can find yourself hungry for the Word of God. We have a God who satisfies our hungry soul. As we read in Psalm 107:9 “For He satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.”
Keep away your soul from things that do not profit. Wait for the Lord to fill your soul with goodness as He hath promised. He neither disappoints nor does he leave His longing children hungry.
What does a longing soul do? A longing soul that seeks that Lord will have no lack. We read in Psalm 34:10,” The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the lord shall not want any good thing.”
Examine yourself this day, does reading and meditating the word of God seem a routine to you? You find every message being delivered as repeated ones? It is high time you realize that your soul is filled with something unwanted. You need to immediately act in asking the Lord to empty you. Then with that hunger seek for the Lord and He will fill you.
