Walk of Life, Day 05 – November 2020- Thoughts from the Book of Proverbs.
Proverbs 5:11 “And thou mourn at the last…”
There is a parable in the Holy Bible (Luke 16:19-31) which speaks about a rich man and a poor man. The rich man enjoys a luxurious life on this earth whereas the poor man suffers a lot due to his poverty and sickness. One fine day, they both die and reach their destinations. The rich man goes to hell and the poor man to heaven. This does not imply that all the rich go to hell and all the poor go to heaven. However, it is not your earthly or physical status that determines your destiny but it is your spiritual status that gets you there.
In the verse we read about mourning in the last. This mourning can be applied to both infidels and few believers. Infidels are the ones who do not accept the gospel. They do not accept the Lord Jesus as their personal savior. So, they end up in the hell fire, where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth (Matthew 13:42). Their last is mourning.
Who are those few believers who mourn and why do they have to mourn? Mourning is defined as the feel of regret. As the children of God, we receive special gifts and talents from Him to glorify Him. When we meet our Lord after rapture, we approach Him with the work that we did for Christ. “Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.” 1 Corinthians 3:13 When the work that we did for the Lord is tried in the fire and gets consumed by it, then the work will not be counted. This depends on our way of working. If we depend on our own abilities to do the work of the Lord, then it does not bring glory to His name. Only when you completely surrender yourself to the Lord and just recognize yourself as a remote-control car whose remote is in the hands of the Lord, you will bring glory to the name of the Lord and your work stays.
When we hide our talents and do not work with them, even then we will have to be ashamed on that glorious day as we do not receive any reward from the Lord. So, we feel regret or we mourn.
Dear friends, whatever you might be doing in your life, just remind yourself Ecclesiastes 11:9,” Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgement.” You might enjoy your life according to your rules, but you will have to give an explanation to God one fine day. How is your ‘Last’ going to be? Will you be mourning or will you be rejoicing?
