Walk Of Life- Day 12, November 2020, Thoughts From The Book Of Proverbs
A righteous man regards the life of his animal – Proverbs 12:10
God’s mercies are over all his works; he saves both man and beast; he hates nothing that he has made (Psalm 36:6; Psalm 145:9; Jonah 4:11;). So he enacted that the rest of the sabbath should extend to the domestic animals (Exodus 20:10); that a man should help the over-burdened beast, even of his enemy (Exodus 23:4, 5); that the unequal strength of the ox and the ass should not be yoked together in the plough (Deuteronomy 22:10); that the ox should not be muzzled when he was treading out the corn (Deuteronomy 25:4): that the sitting bird should not be taken from her little brood (Deuteronomy 22:6), nor a kid seethed in its mother’s milk (Exodus 23:19). Such humane injunctions were perhaps specially needed at a time when man’s life was little regarded, and animal sacrifices had a tendency to make men cruel and unfeeling.
Throughout the old testament animal sacrifices were made and there were different animals and birds sacrificed for the remission with variation in the type of sin and the economy level of the offerors. Imagine, the old testament believer had to take along with him either a bullock or a goat or any other birds whenever he goes to the Lord’s temple. Only unblemished animals were to be offered (Leviticus 1:3; 3:6; 4:3; 5:15). Countless animals were offered.
This case would have been worsen if this would have been continued in the new testament era as well. But the righteous father sent His only begotten son into this world as an offering for the penalty of my sin and your sin. Though Jesus was sinless, He willingly took our sins on Himself and paid the penalty we deserve as we read in 1 John 3:5 “”And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.”
The lord was not willing to accept the sacrifices of innocent animals but he Himself has become the sacrifice. In sin offering a part of the body of the animal was taken outside the camp and offered as This was because it represented sin, which is repugnant to God (Psalm 5:4; Ezekiel 18:23). He wants it removed far from His sight. Our Lord Jesus Christ as the sin offering suffered outside the gate.
Hebrews 10 : 4,5 says “In those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year. For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.”
Proverbs 12 : 10 says A righteous man regards the life of his animal. There is no one righteous than our God Almighty and He considered the life of His animals as the psalmist says in Psalms 50 : 10, 11 “for every beast of the forest is Mine— the cattle on a thousand hills. I know every bird in the mountains, and the creatures of the field are Mine.” To redeem His precious children from the eternal hell fire our Lord surrendered Himself to the will of His Father to be as a lamb to be slaughtered.
The alms of the Lord are wide open to embrace you calling you softly and tenderly saying “Come home my son, my Daughter, I have already paid the price. You no need to slaughter any animal. Just come. I will hug you, I will cleanse you, I will strengthen you, I will hold you.
Thank you, Dear Father, for redeeming us not by the blood of bulls and goats but by Your precious blood. Cleanse us from all the sins and make us holy and righteous so that we will be merciful to every living creature in this world. In Christ’s most holy name we pray. Amen.
