Walk of Life – Day 29 – November, 2020 – Thoughts from the Book of Proverbs.

Proverbs 29:1 “He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.”

Once upon a time there lived a troop of pigeons in a big forest. They all had a leader who was very old. The old pigeon could no longer fly with others in search of food. So, it stayed at home teaching the young pigeons. One day, the old pigeon taught the young pigeons about the hunter’s ways to trap them. All the young pigeons were terrified. One of the young pigeons did not consider the sayings of the old pigeon seriously at all. The day came when all the young pigeons were sent to find their own grain. While all the pigeons were flying together, suddenly the younger pigeon who did not care much about the instructions started to part its way from the troop. Its friends reminded it of the warning they received from the old pigeon. However, the pigeon did not consider them and started to fly in its way. It saw how beautiful the place was down there. The mountains, children, lakes, and big houses were so beautiful. It flew across a playground. It was very happy to see the children shouting and playing. Just then it saw a stone flying towards it. By the time it could escape, the stone hit its wing and it started to fall down with a great speed. It laid on the ground bleeding for the whole day. There was no one to attend to it and it died at last.

The Word of God is a lamp unto our feet and light unto our path (Psalm 119:105). We get our directions, guidance, and instructions from the Holy Bible. The word tells us the right way to walk in (Isaiah 30:21). We might sometimes falter, sometimes we might even lose our way due to our worldly desires, but the word of God constantly keeps reminding us to take a U-turn. Despite of being warned again and again if we continue in that bad way, we should know that the Spirit of the Lord will not strive with us forever (Genesis 6:3). We should know that there is danger which attacks us all of a sudden, destroying us beyond recovery.

Sin never comes to us in a form which we dislike it. It comes to us in a most appealing way, in fact the one who tempts us is the great deceiver, Satan. Sin disguises itself into a saintly act. If we are not controlled by the Spirit of the Lord, we fall for it very badly. Even after we fall, the Spirit of the Lord does not give up on us. He tries to lend us His hand by speaking to us through His word. He tries to restore us back to God. But we fail to realize his help and only think that we are being criticized, we hold back our hand and go deeper and deeper into the sin and thereafter vanish.

There are many who might be thinking by the time I realize I am going deeper into the sin and nearer towards my ruin, I will ask the Lord to forgive me. This can never happen. When you realize that your relationship with God is not like the way it was when you were born again, right at that moment you need to repent and turn back to God. He is so gracious and will lend you His hand for helping you to be restored. There is never a tomorrow.

I heard this incident in a youth meeting. One young girl attended a youth camp. She was convicted when she heard the final message. While the altar call was being given, she did not raise her hand but has written in the last page of her diary saying,” I will accept the Lord tomorrow.” She soon came out of the meeting as she was getting late for a movie. She postponed her salvation just to watch a movie that day. The moment she stepped out of the premises, she was hit by a truck while crossing the road and died on the spot. The diary within her hand flew up in air and fell to the ground and opened at the last page where it was written,”; I will accept the Lord tomorrow.” That tomorrow never came in her life.

We do not know what is written for tomorrow. However, you always have today, this very moment to ask God to help you come out of your wretched life. Ask today, ask now. Do not deceive yourself thinking that your relationship with God is fine while you are yet sinning. There is a Sunday school song which say,” There is no small sin and big sin, sin is sin.” Do not try to measure how great or small your sin is, when you find that you are doing that which displeases God, come to Him, repent of your sinful act, ask Him to forgive you and help you to overcome it. Soon you will find yourself on the ground of victory. If you harden your heart and play according to the tune of Satan you will meet you ruin very soon.

May we all examine ourselves and plead God to restore us. Amen.

Sad but true “Many who plan to seek God at the twelfth hour die at 11.30 p.m.”
