Walk of Life, Day 17- December 2020- Thoughts from the Book of Proverbs.
Lord Jesus Christ – The Best Friend
A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. Proverbs 17:17 KJV
Do you have a friend who can be trusted at all times, who helps you in all your problems and in every situation? Do you have a friend who can be relied on? You may hardly find one or two true friends and they may not be with you every time you need help. And may be some do not have trustworthy friends at all, though you have a big list of friends. Here is a good news, the Lord Jesus Christ is our friend who is present at all the times both good and bad, ever present help in trouble, who waits for us to talk to Him, seek Him in every detail our life, who is ready to help us anytime even during midnight. He cares for us, He is afflicted in our afflictions, He is jealous over us, He protects us as an apple of His eye, and He never leaves us lonely when we depend on Him.
What a friend we have in Jesus!!
Many look into this world for friends, get disappointed and then dissatisfied. Our Lord offers His friendship only when we trust in Him. He will abide in us when we abide in Him. He is a perfect friend who never leaves us even unto the end of this world. It is difficult to believe in an unseen friend rather than a seen friend, we take our friend’s advice easily rather than seek God. A friend also has influence to impact your choices, thinking, and behavior. Many tend to follow their friends and they find great joy in sharing similar tastes and behavioral and thinking patterns. If it is aligned to God’s standards imitating a godly friend is good, yet on the other hand, if it is the other way round and your friend influences you in a wrong way pulling you away from God and prayer life take note of it and move closer to God and further away from that friend.
Not just having and looking out for a good friend, usually when you are good people also want to be good friends with you. How to be a good friend? Pray for your friends troubles, salvation, and well-being as Job did and restored his friends. In this chapter, we can see the word friend three times which tells how a friend should not behave
He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends. Proverbs 17: 9
A good friend does not keep digging the old faults or mistakes of his friend, when he/she does that the relationship is spoilt, other than to correct or to try making things better.
A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. Proverbs 17:17
A friend in whatever state or mood either rich or poor, loss or gain a good friend has a stable mind and heart.
A man void of understanding striketh hands, and becometh surety in the presence of his friend. Proverbs 17:18
Here the verse talks about what a friend should not do (Proverbs 11:15) though you are a friend, the wise do not be as a surety to avoid any kind of trouble.
It can be made clear that there is no perfect friend in this world, as children of God we need to show the world that Lord Jesus Christ is our best friend.
A friend forever, the Lord Jesus, by my side always, may I always be true to you, never follow my worldly friends more than You, never deny or grieve you, never hurt you in any way. Lord help me to do your will, obey your word, love your house and your people and be someone whom you can trust in to fulfil your purposes in this world. Help me to be faithful in all that I do. In Jesus Name. Amen.
” If Jesus died for me, I cannot trifle with the evil that killed my Best Friend.” – Charles Spurgeon
