Walk of Life – Day 24 – February 2021 – Thoughts from the Book of Proverbs

The Blessing of Strength

A wise man is strong, Yes, a man of knowledge increases strength; Proverbs 24:5

We all know this beautiful song sung by Jim Reeves, it was written by Thomas A. Dorsey.

When my way groweth drear, Precious Lord, linger near
When my light is almost gone, Hear my cry, hear my call
Hold my ha-and lest I fall, Take my hand, precious Lord
Lead me on
Precious Lord, take my hand, Lead me on, let me stand
I am tired, I’m weak, I am worn, Through the storm, through the night
Lead me on to the light, Take my hand, precious Lord, Lead me home

The story behind this song pleading for the Lord’s strength is very moving. His wife was about to bear their first baby and he had to go to St. Louis to sing. During the first night of the meetings, he received a telegram that his wife had passed away giving birth to their son. He drove back to Chicago only to discover that his son also passed away.

After burying his wife and baby in the same casket, filled with grief, he walked in to one of the music rooms of Annie Malone’s Poro College with Professor Frye. As he played the tune of a old hymn, he began saying these words Blessed Lord, blessed Lord. His friend said, make it precious Lord and that’s how this hymn was penned. He then began to sing, ‘Precious Lord, take my hand, lead me on, help me stand.’ This beautiful song born after a tragedy has been translated to more than 30 languages. So where did he find that strength to stand in spite of losing his young wife and beautiful baby? At the feet of the Lord Jesus.

Isaiah 40:31  But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

King Solomon says, a wise man is strong and we find wisdom at the feet of the Lord Jesus. The more your wait on the Lord, the more you spend time at his feet, the more you read His word and pray, the more stronger you are spiritually. We are not speaking about knowing the Bible from cover to cover, you must have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. It means communion with the Savior daily as friend speaks to friend. The more you sit at Jesus feet like Mary, the more strength you will derive. And this strength is manifest when trials come your way. When the lion roars and wolf seems to be coming to snatch what’s dearest to you, you will remain calm, there will be no fear, only the joy of the Lord which will be your strength.

When all seems lost, when life seems strange,
When things don’t seem to be going my way,
When events that happen, drain my strength,
Lord to thy feet I come…

When people betray, when close friends leave me all alone,
When I feel lonely and troubled and worn,
When I feel so drained that I feel so weak,
Lord to thy feet I come,

There is peace and joy and everlasting strength,
The calm assurance that You will take care,
No matter who, no matter what anyone may say,
I will cling to thy feet dear Lord every single day.

Be strong in the Lord. Hold on  to Him. No matter what your situation is today, He loves you and He cares for you. He will give you strength to carry on.
