Walk Of Life – Day 21, April 2021 – Thoughts From The Book Of Proverbs – DON’T s

DO NOT SHUT YOUR EARS TO THE CRY OF THE POOR

Whoever shuts their ears to the cry of the poor will also cry out and not be answered. – Proverbs 21:13

A Jewish priest and a Levite ignored their own wounded countryman lying wounded in a ditch (Luke 10:30-32). They did not want to get involved. They were too busy. They had plans for the day. They had uses for their money. But a Samaritan, had mercy on the wounded man and cared for him (Luke 10:33-35; John 4:9). This man loved his neighbor, and he was surely blessed. You may be sure that the great God of heaven ignored the priest and Levite later in their own hour of need.

How are we today? Are our thoughts centering around our self so that our ears are blocked to the cry of others? Crying in desperation to be saved? This cry may not only be for money or for morsel of food or for clothes to cover their nakedness but also may be for a need of your time, for a word of encouragement or for hope.

Look around! There are many who are crying out to you. You will hear them crying in different slang and with different levels of emotions. Many times we don’t even hear them. At times we ignore them. Lend your money to the poor and the lord will repay you back. A heavenly secret is that giving money away is the best way to get ahead financially. “He that hath pity upon the poor lends unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again” (Pr 19:17). “He that gives unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hides his eyes shall have many a curse” (Pr 28:27).

A great evidence of eternal life is a man’s willingness to give money to help the poor in the name of Jesus Christ. This is called the labor of love, and it proves election (I Thes 1:2-4; Gal 5:6). God will never forget acts of charity toward His children (Heb 6:10; Matt 25:31-46). A generous man can lay up a good foundation for the time to come – the Day of Judgment – and lay hold on eternal life by this kind of cheerful giving (I Tim 6:17-19).
