Walk of Life, Day 28 – April, 2021 – Thoughts from the Book of Proverbs. Don’ts.

DO NOT BE HASTY TO BE RICH.

Proverbs 28:22 “He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him.”

These days we rarely find people who do hard work. The world is occupied with people who work smart. People try to support their deeds by saying they are saving their energy and are investing it for something better. Recently, I heard about an engineering student who made some other person do his project works for him. He was even willing to pay few bucks for getting his project done. This seems to be smart work for many of the students. However, when they have to face test to pursue their career based on their study, most of them fail. The so-called smart work does not help them there in any way.

Not just students, but many these days want things to be done as soon as possible with less efforts.  There was another person who shows interest in lucky draws, he says,” Once we get a lucky draw, life gets set. There is no need to work hard thereafter.” There are many factors that affect a person’s thoughts and deeds. It is easy for the young minds to get polluted with such thoughts of getting things done faster with least efforts. However, the word of God instructs us in 2 Corinthians 6:17 “Be ye separate.”

We, as the children of God are expected to lead a life which is separate or different from the world. It is easy to say, but tough to practice. Leading such life includes lots of mocking, embarrassment, disappointments. However, the result of being loyal and patient is always sweet. Perseverance is what we require. However hard and difficult the road might be, we should not be searching for a way to escape. Our Lord has not given us the spirit of timidness, but the spirit of courage and power (2Timothy1:7).

In the scriptures we read about a person who was very fortunate to be assisting a Man of God. He ran in haste to get the riches from a great man, by uttering a lie. His hard work or ‘smart work’ did pay off with leprosy. 2 Kings 5:20-27.

Dear friend in Christ, the verse warns us not to be in haste to get rich. Let us examine ourselves if we have been running like that young assistant behind vain, perishable riches. If so, we are running for damnation, but not riches. Let us stop our run, and turn to the Lord Jesus, seeking Him to forgive us and He will instill a new desire to follow Him in our hearts.

Being separate makes us welcome mockery, insult and pain. However, if we endure this pain which lasts only for a little season, we will be rewarded by the heavenly Father for being loyal to His word, obeying His commandment. When you refuse to choose wrong path to succeed and determine to work hard, even when all your friends go forward by choosing wrong paths, it causes a lot of pain. If you do not wish to take that pain, you choose the path chosen by your friends, but that does not make you different from them. It pains the Lord Jesus, as you put Him to shame. Always remember that one we become the child of God, it is not we who live but the Christ who lives in and through us. So, do not be in haste to do anything, just to be good in the eyes of men. It is Christ who should be satisfied, glorified through our lives.

Let us determine to surrender to the sovereign authority of the Lord Jesus Christ, let Him direct our every step.
