Walk Of Life – Day 3, August 2021 – Thoughts From The Book Of Proverbs – Right Attitude
Right Attitude To Depart From Evil
Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil. – Proverbs 3:7
Greetings to you all in the Name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
As the children of the most holy God holiness is not a choice but the walk of life. We have to depart from evil. Lame excuses can’t be given. We are washed and forgiven. Taking a step to do evil is not our cup of tea. That evil could be anything related to our senses. From our childhood we have been singing the song
“Oh! be careful little eyes what you see (2)
For there’s Father up above and he is looking down in love
Oh! be careful little eyes what you see.
Oh! be careful little ears what you hear (2)…..
Oh! be careful little nose what you smell (2)…..
Oh! be careful little mouth what you speak (2)……
Oh! be careful little hands what you do (2)……
Oh! be careful little Legs where you walk (2)……
Oh! be careful little Mind what you think (2)….
For there’s Father up above and he is looking down in love
Oh! be careful little eyes what you hear, smell, speak, do, walk and think.
I confess singing this chorus and teaching it to the children is quite easy but very difficult to be followed. When I look at myself, I confess that I’m not at all worthy to teach this song as in one way or more I’m evil. Evil thoughts, evil words and evil actions. I praise Our Lord who is long suffering whose infinite mercies has kept me in His fold but I am very sure that I can’t take this blessed privilege for granted. There will be a day where our Lord will shut the door as He closed the doors of the ark of Noah. Time will delay no longer.
My dear brothers and sisters let us carefully observe our ways. Let us dare to take a step of evil. Let us not give vain consolation by saying we have done out of our weakness. Evil is evil. We are surrounded by evil every where. The most grieving factor is this that it is even in the house of God.
For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God? – 1 Peter 4:17
Have the right attitude to depart from evil. From the verse taken for today’s meditation two ways are given to possess that attitude.
1. Fear the Lord
2. Do not be wise in your own eyes.
May the Holy Spirit of God fill our hearts with the fear of the Lord and a will to obey His commandments. The pulse of the heart of our Lord is very clearly given unto us through the word of God. As Moses says to nation Israel in Deuteronomy 4 : 8 And what great nation is there that has such statutes and righteous judgments as are in all this law which I set before you this day?. Analysing our ways should not be done according to our standards but according to His commandments which reveals the pulse of the heart of our Lord. We must approach Him with the attitude of correcting our ways, without being wise in our own eyes.
Prayer : Most Holy God, as your children we ought to depart from evil. We are sorry Lord we have chosen the path of embracing evil in many ways. Cleanse us and fill us with the right attitude to depart from evil fearing you and obeying your commandments. Help us to live a life pleasing unto you. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen
