Walk Of Life – Day 13, August 2021 – Thoughts From The Book Of Proverbs – Right Attitude

*The Right Attitude To Accomplish Desire*

A desire accomplished is sweet to the soul, But it is an abomination to fools to depart from evil. – Proverbs 13:19

As a child of God what is the right attitude to accomplish desire?

What are the desires of your heart? Your heart’s desires equal everything you secretly dream about, visualize or imagine. They’re not just far-off, impractical wishes or impossible hopes, but they are deeply spiritual in nature.

Many Christians wonder if the desires of their heart are God’s will, and rightly so. Before we ever begin pursuing our heart’s desires, we must know they line up with God’s Word and will. The more time you spend with God—seeking Him and obeying His Word—the more certain you will be that your heart’s desires match His will. In fact, when you follow Him, He puts those desires in your heart (Psalm 37:4). They become in sync with His will.

If we are setting our affections on an object or a person clearly outside of God’s will as revealed in the Bible, then we need to repent of the desire itself, even if we have not acted to obtain the object of our desire.

Paul urgently encourages the Thessalonians to, “Be joyful always, pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” and after letting our desires to be known to God we must neither panic nor grumble.

Psalm 145:19 clearly says that “He fulfills the desire of those who fear him; he also hears their cry and saves them.” Wise King Solomon also has said something else about Desire as in Proverbs 19:2 “Proverbs 19:2 “Desire without knowledge is not good, and whoever makes haste with his feet misses his way.” and his own life fits is the best example that show forth the destruction of life because of desire.

The best desire that we should have is the longing for God. Sometimes we don’t want God. We don’t have any longing, not even the faintest whim. That’s when we should pray, “God, I want to want you.” What’s amazing is that God soon answers this prayer with another glimpse of himself.

May our Lord fill us with the right attitude to accomplish desire and to desire more for God.
