Walk of Life, Day 21, August 2021- Thoughts from the Book of Proverbs- Right Attitude.
“The right attitude to be joyful.”
Proverbs 21:15 “It is joy to the just to do judgement: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.”
Who does not desire to be joyful? Everyone likes to be happy at all times. No one would want to have sorrows in their lives. Only if we have the pen and the eraser to make changes in the book of our lives, we would surely be erasing everything that must have caused sorrow to us and would have filled them with happiest moments. Did you not think of this at any point of your life?
Joy is a stronger emotion when compared to happiness. We ought to possess a right attitude to obtain joy in our lives. A life full of joy seems impractical, however, if we have the right attitude within us, it is definitely possible. Life is truly a bed of roses and thorns. However, with the right attitude, the thorns that prick bring no pain, but increase our joy.
How should our attitude be, to be joyful? How can we define this ‘right attitude to joyfulness’?
This strongest emotion, that is, joy, is once described as ‘unspeakable joy’ in the Holy Bible. Shall we read 1Peter 1:8, which says,” Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory.”
When you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, who is love according to 1 John 4:16, you receive this glorious and unspeakable joy. No one can snatch this joy away from you. This joy is given to us by God Himself. If you are born again, you will surely understand and will agree that to be saved by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ will fill us with glorious joy.
This is the first joy that we talk about and will this suffice? If it does, then why does king David pray in Psalm 51:12, “Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation;”? A thief would never be coming to the store to steal inexpensive things, but to steal the expensive, valuable ones. Satan’s eye is on the joy of your salvation. You may not be regarding it precious because you probably do not realize how precious it is. Satan knows the worth of this unspeakable joy, so he targets to disturb this joy, which results in chaos. We will surely invite chaos into our lives if we give way for Satan and his wicked devices to work in us. Therefore, it is mandatory for us to use this phrase in our prayers, seeking God earnestly to renew the joy of His salvation in us.
How can we be joyful even during the worst times of our life?
There are two possibilities to rejoice during trouble. They are:
- You know the end result.
- You are on the right side.
When an examination squad enters the examination hall, do you find all the students trembling with fear? No, the ones who are perfect, following all the examination code and conduct, will be fearless. In the same way, when you know that your friend would come to receive you from the station at a place, which is new to you, you worry less. We, as the children of God are privileged to have these both possibilities.
First, we should never forget that for those who love the Lord, all things work together for good. (Romans 8:28) How hard life might go, just remember, if you love God, the end would surely be good. So, stop worrying and stay joyful.
Second, as the verse from the Proverbs tells us, when we are being just, doing justice, there is nothing that we should be afraid of, for we will be filled with joy.
Follow His instructions implicitly, this right attitude will keep you joyful irrespective of the chaotic circumstances.
Praise the Lord Jesus Christ!
