Walk of Life, Day 28, August 2021- Thoughts from the Book of Proverbs. Right Attitude.

The right attitude to be faithful.

Proverbs 28:20 “A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.”

Faithfulness is an attribute that we desire in people that we come across, but often fail to be one. Being faithful brings us blessings of courage, confidence, peace and joy, whereas being unfaithful brings us shame, fear, chaos and sorrow.

In what aspects should we be faithful?

For any human being there are three common fields where we ought to be faithful for a happy life. They are:

  1. Family
  2. Study place / Work place
  3. Society

However, a child of God has to be faithful in another field, that is, 4. In the Church, faithful unto God.

Being faithful in administering different roles in a family would bring peace.

Being faithful at study or work place and in the society would fetch you a good name.

What do we get if we be faithful to God?

Revelation 2:8-11 “Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.”

God will reward us with the crown of life, if we be faithful unto Him till our death. The blessings that we receive for being faithful on this world to this worldly affairs are perishable, but the crown of life is not perishable, but is everlasting.

Don’t you want the crown of life? If you do, come let us be faithful.

How can we be called faithful by the God?

We try to glean two lessons that teach us to be faithful, from two of the parables said by the Lord Jesus Christ.

Matthew 24: 46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.

A certain man goes to a distant place and keeps a servant in charge of his house. One fine day he returns, he finds the servant doing the work assigned. The man would surely reward that faithful servant, would he not?

Applying this to our spiritual life, the Lord Jesus Christ bought us with His precious blood. We are not our own, but are His’ assets. Now, He hath entrusted us to take care of our souls. He will come one day unexpectedly, on that day if He finds you working out your salvation, He will call you faithful and will also reward you. If he finds you careless, He will punish.

Are you working out your salvation by doing what the Lord commands you to do?

Secondly, in Matthew 25:14-29 we read about a man who gives talents to his servants according to his will. He comes back one day to them and enquires about the talents given to them. While the first and the second multiply the talents given to them, there is one servant who hides his talent in the earth. The man calls the first and the second servant as ‘faithful’ servants, but the third servant he calls ‘slothful’.

Let us examine ourselves if we are being faithful or slothful. The treasure that we hold as the child of God is our salvation. The wicked one is after it. If we are not watching and working out His salvation, we will never be called faithful. Whatever talent God has given you, use it for His glory and for the edification of the church. If you stay quiet, you will be called slothful.

When our dear Lord Jesus comes to take us home, let us be found working out our salvation, using the talents and gifts given by Him for His glory. Amen.
