Walk of Life, Day 30, August 2021- Thoughts from the Book of Proverbs. Right Attitude.

The right attitude to work.

Proverbs 30:24-28 “There be four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise:

The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer;

The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks;

The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands;

The spider taketh hold with her hands and is in kings’ palaces.”

God uses His creation sometimes to teach us the most important lessons for our life. We see in the Old Testament, God opened the mouth of a donkey to put some brain into His prophet. Today let us meditate on what the little creatures are going to teach us. Ants, conies, locusts and spiders are indeed little creatures when compared to us, yet their work has been mentioned in the Holy Bible. This teaches us one most important lesson that encourages us, that is, ‘No matter how weak and feeble you are, God will consider your work.’

The four spiritual requirements to work for the Lord are taught by these little creatures. They are:

  1. Being prepared.
  2. Dependence on God.
  3. Discipline.
  4. Focus on the purpose.

Being prepared:

An ant teaches us to be prepared, or equipped for the day of calamity. Ants cannot go out during the winter or the rainy season, so they go out in summer and gather food enough for the rainy and winter seasons. It amazes us to think how wonderfully God has designed the ant, so that it could recognize or predict the change of seasons. Are we not greater than the ants? Yes, we are!

We say that we are living for Christ. We also say that we are waiting for the rapture. Are we really prepared to be a part of the rapture? Just like the ants, we are blessed to know that the coming of the Lord is very near. Knowing all the facts and witnessing all the signs that state that the coming of the Lord is very near, how can we be excused for being unprepared!

Dependence on God:

Conies are animals with the stature of rabbits. Having read about them online, these conies live on rocks. Whenever there is any danger, they run to the rocks and hide among those rocks. We are very feeble compared to the wicked one. While he is termed mighty, we need not fear as our God, the Lord Jesus Christ who lives in us is almighty. Whenever we face any disturbance, we should run to the Lord Jesus Christ our only rock and our shelter. Do not depend on yourself or on others.

Discipline:

Locusts teach us discipline. We ought to strive for unity in our assemblies. Sometimes to maintain unity among the members you have to sacrifice your desires, deny yourself. It is painful, but our main aim should be unity. Forgive and forget should be our principle.

Focus on the purpose:

The duty of spiders is to make webs for its living. No matter in which country the spider lives, its duty does not change. This tells us to be working for the Lord, keeping our focus on the purpose for which God hath created us, not caring about the circumstances that God takes us through. Few people enact differently at different places. They are children of God at the local assembly and some other at work place. Wherever we be, we should never put off our identity as the children of God.

Let us seek God’s help in enabling us, the weaker vessels to be doing mighty works for Him.

Amen!
