Walk of Life – September 2021 – Day 25 – Thoughts from the Book of Proverbs
Step In to Have a God-Controlled Life
He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls. Proverbs 25:28
In ancient days, walls were meant to protect the city. We know the story of the Walls of Jericho. These tall huge walls were meant to keep the enemy at bay and not to come near and attack the city. A broken wall meant that the enemy could enter the city and then take hold of the city and conquer it. The enemy soldiers would go round and round the city to check if there were any broken walls, any damages, any entry points in the wall.
Here King Solomon compares a person without self-control as one without walls…one who has no control over his own spirit. We find a whole variety of people around us. Some of them will speak without even bothering or caring if their words would hurt someone or not…some act as if they are accountable to no one…they can do as they like. More than self-control, I would say we need to have the Lord rule over our spirits…die to self and give God control of our lives.
We learn time and time again that no matter what, God is always in control. We can’t have our hands on the steering wheel while giving God control at the same time. He is the one taking you exactly where you are supposed to go while at the same having us exactly where we are supposed to be. God wants us to know that His plan is perfect. He only wants what is absolutely best for His children. Hand over your life to Him. Let Him lead the way He wants in the pathway he wants…I have no control over my own actions…Christ has control.
If we want to live the Spirit-controlled life, we have to look at the standard by which we can live the Spirit-controlled life. If my life is to be brought under discipline, how do I measure that? How am I going to know if my life is in control? What’s the standard? The standard is the law of God. We need to spend time on our knees and with God’s Word. We need to live close to the Lord. Only then we will be able to hear the prodding of the Spirit of God when we go the wrong way. Our lives need to be in God’s control, under His guidance and leading continuously.
“Let God have control over your life. He can do more with it than you can.”
