Walk Of Life – Day 20 – February 2022 – Thoughts From The Book Of Proverbs – Love!

Love to be awake

“Do not love sleep or you will grow poor; stay awake and you will have food to spare” Proverb 20:13

Striving for success without hard work is like trying to harvest what you haven’t planted. When Adam was cursed, God told him that he will have food by painful toil. Since then man has to plough the land and work hard to earn his food. Today we experience the same hardship that God gave Adam when HE banished Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden. Without toiling no man can meet their daily needs. Only hard work can reap good results.

A farmer wakes up very early and works in the field. It does not matter if it’s sunny, rainy, windy or cloudy, he works non-stop till evening. Then he waits for the crop to harvest. After harvesting he prepares the land for the next crop. If the farmer stays lazy and not work hard irrespective of the climatic condition, he will never be able to produce food. As King Solomon writes laziness will lead us to poverty but hard work will enable to earn you and your family livelihood in turn can help you to be a blessing to others.

From the book of Acts we see a hardworking women named Lydia of Thyatira from Philippi. She earned a living by selling purple cloth and took care of her family. When Paul preached the gospel of Jesus Christ in Philippi, God opened Lydia’s heart and she and her household got baptized. She then invited Paul and Silas to continue their ministry at her home.

From the scriptures we understand that she could have been a widow as she was the earning member of the family. But she was disciplined and hard working. Because of this she was able to support herself and Paul’s ministry financially. So the Word of God brings us a remainder on how God will bless a diligent hand by which he will make you resourceful and use you to bless many more. There by God’s name will be glorified.

And in Proverbs chapter 31 we read the attributes or the daily schedule of a wise woman. She wakes up very early and goes to bed after everyone has retired to bed. We live in a generation that has mostly forgotten the benefits of early rising and with frequent holidays they tend to sleep even when it is not the bed time. The incessant usage of gadgets makes them fall asleep. If it’s a holiday the time to wake up changes.

Dear readers, whatever might be the burden of the day either a very busy day or a day of leisure try to wake up on time without allowing sleep to your eyes. Work hard at all times either physics hard work or mental work. As the children of God we have double duty. To prepare ourselves for the kingdom of God serving Him in the area that He has entrusted us and taking care of our livelihood and so let us Love to be awake.

“And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”  2 Corinthians 9:8
