Walk of Life, Day 17 April 2022, Thoughts On Resurrection Of Christ

“Why do you look for the living among the dead?  He is not here; he has risen!” Luke 24:5,6

Today whole world celebrates Easter Sunday. What happened this day? We know on Good Friday Lord Jesus was crucified and was buried in a nearby unused tomb located in a garden by Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathea. As per the Jewish burial customs, Jesus was wrapped in strips of linen with mixture of myrrh, aloes and some spices. After Jesus’s burial, the disciples were in mourning and forgot that Lord Jesus  has to suffer, die and on the third day rise to life. But High priests remembered what Lord Jesus told them in the temple that He is going to rise to life on the third day. So they went to Pilate and requested the tomb made secure as they did not want the disciples to steal the body and make false claims. So they went and made the tomb secure by putting a seal on the stone and posting the guard.

On the third day early morning when Mary Magdalene and other Mary went to the tomb, they witnessed an angel coming down from heaven and rolling the heavy stone away accompanied by a violent earthquake. The event terrified the women and the guard present there. The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.  Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.” Matthew 28:5-7. The women afraid yet filled with joy ran to tell his disciples of this news. When the chief priest got this news they bribed the soldiers to lie that the disciples came during the night and stole the body while they were asleep. This story has been widely circulated among the Jews to this very day. Later Lord Jesus appeared to many disciples till he ascended to heaven.

The story of Easter is all about The Risen LORD – Jesus Christ. Resurrection of Christ is the foundation of Christian Faith.

1. Resurrection proves that Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life was a descendant of David, and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord” Romans 1:3.4

2.Resurrection assures us that by believing in Lord Jesus, we are forgiven from our sins and we are a new creation in him. That is what we claim during baptism – dead to sin and made alive in Christ.
“And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. 1 Corinthians 15:17

3.Resurrection of Christ assures us that we are reconciled to the Father from the lost relationship in the garden of Eden.
Sin separated us from God. To make atonement for sin, animal sacrifices were made. But Christ’s death made atonement for sins of the whole world once and for all. And resurrection assures that we now have an advocate who stands at the throne of Holy God pleading for forgiveness of our sins.
That God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”      2 Corinthians 5: 19, 21

4.Resurrection of Christ assures that we have victory over death through Christ
“But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.” 1 Corinthians 15:20-22

5.Resurrection of Christ assures us Eternal Life
“My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” John14:2, 3

It is a common tradition to remember Christ death and celebrate Easter once a year. But every Sunday as we worship and take part in the Lord’s Table we proclaim Christ’s death till he returns. The Resurrection of Christ has given us hope to rejoice every day not just one day in the year .
