Walk Of Life – Day 16, June 2022 – Thoughts From The Words Of Christ

Jesus Heals Two Blind Men (Mathew 9:27-31)

This is a simple story of two blind men who were following Lord Jesus and cried out to him for mercy. Lord Jesus who is our merciful savior touched them and restored both of their sight. Although it sounds like a simple story of healing, we can learn a lot from these blind men.

Look Past Your Weakness
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 12:9
The problem with the two men calling out for the Lord was blindness. Blindness was a common disease in Israel at that time. The causes could be blindness by birth, developing cataract in old age, leprosy or Trachoma, an infectious disease spread commonly by flies in those days. Blind men often landed up becoming beggars but the physical weakness of these men did not stop them from seeking God.

Look Unto The Lord
“As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!”” Matthew 9:27
The blind men found out about Lord Jesus and followed him to the place where they could meet him in person. The men called out and pleaded for mercy and not healing. They knew the prophesy in Isaiah 35:5,6 which saidThen will the eyes of the blind be opened and the ears of the deaf unstopped. Then will the lame leap like a deer, and the mute tongue shout for joy.” In their hearts they believed that Lord Jesus was the Messiah, so they called him as ‘Son of David’.

Believe In The Lord
When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” “Yes, Lord,” they replied.” Matthew 9:28
When Lord Jesus saw the blind men, He did not heal them immediately. He wanted to test their faith, so He ignored them and went indoors. The men were persistent and went into the house to meet Lord Jesus. To test their faith He asked if they believe him to be the Messiah who could heal them.

Have Faith In The Lord
“Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith let it be done to you”; and their sight was restored.” Matthew 9:29,30
When Lord Jesus had tested them, He touched their eyes and healed them. “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1. Faith does not guarantee healing for everyone but lack of faith in Christ does not allow healing to happen in any person. But since the blind men had faith without any doubt that Lord Jesus is the Messiah, their eyes were completely restored.

Share Your Faith Rightly
“Jesus warned them sternly, “See that no one knows about this.” But they went out and spread the news about him all over that region.” Matthew 9:30,31
The blind men had faith to receive healing but could not display faith to obey Lord’s command to be silent about their healing. Rather they went and shared their joy of being restored to everyone.

Many times when you focus on your weaknesses, you can be a stumbling block for God’s purposes to be fulfilled in your life. Amidst all the trials and temptation, you need to trust God like these blind men. For God to heal you or use you for his work, you need to have faith that He is able to do the impossible for you. Most importantly, you need read the word regularly and wait for God’s instruction and follow it without wavering to be fruitful in his kingdom. So, let us believe like these blind men to achieve the impossible through Christ Jesus, Our Saviour and King.
