Walk Of Life – Day 8, July 2022 – Thoughts From The Book Of Psalms
A Prayer in Deep Sorrow
The Lord hath heard my supplication; the Lord will receive my prayer. Psalms 6:9
Psalm 6 is the first real lament of David to the Lord as his heart is consumed with thoughts of his enemies. We can feel the anxiety, fear, and sorrow in his words. The psalm is a perfect reflection of our thought process when we go through suffering. David does not close the psalm in despair, he ends it with hope that the Lord is there to hear him and to answer him.
The first thought that comes to our heart when we go through difficult times is Lord is this your chastening? Did I do something wrong to hurt you? As a father chasteneth his children, the Lord chastens those whom we love. It may be a time to introspect and see if we have sinned against the Lord in any way but its always important to remember that all suffering is not punishment or chastening. The Lord sometimes allows situations or reasons best known to Him as in the case of Job.
When the mind is worried or upset, the body feels weak and worn out. David cries out to the Lord to heal him physically and then in deep anguish he says, Lord my soul is also vexed, How long Lord? We often ask this question, Lord how long? I am ready to wait but how long…And then he utters his deepest anguish, he feels like he is going to die of sorrow. He describes how his couch is watered with his tears. We have all been there…drenching our pillows in tears, crying how long Lord? Lord why me? Can u heal me please? Save me from my enemies and many times you may feel a silence…you may wonder is the Lord there? Then David proclaims…he said my enemies, depart from me, the Lord has heard my supplication, He has received my prayer.
In the deepest anguish, to have that calm quiet assurance that the Lord is listening is very comforting. he will never leave you nor forsake you. He will never leave you unheard…He is listening to those deep sighs of anguish. There are many times when we say nothing. We have so much of sorrow within but we feel who is even going to understand…why say and then feel more bad. But the Lord is listening my friend, to all those quiet groanings, those silent tears. Never worry, He is in control. He maketh no mistake. He loves you dearly. You can cry your heart out to the Lord…He is listening and WILL answer. The Lord’s answers may be definite yes, may be a delay, may be a denial or may be a different answer not what you expected. But His ways are perfect. He leads in the right path. Rest assured, every cloud has a silver lining. Hold on, cling on, He will be with you all the way. It is well with my soul!!
