Walk Of Life – Day 6, August 2022 – Thoughts From The Book Of Psalms.

“OUR DEPENDENCE ON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST.”

Psalm 28

‘Prayer is a weapon to fight our spiritual battles.’ ‘Prayer is a means of communication where we submit our worries to God and obtain joy and peace from Him in return.’ Every follower of Christ knows the power of prayer. However, very few of us realize that prayer is not just informing, asking or sharing, instead prayer is complete dependence on God. Telling Him,’ I cannot do it, I need you very much.’

The very first verse of this psalm of David teaches us how we should esteem ourselves when we approach God in prayer and in the latter verses teach us how to prepare ourselves to pray.

“Unto thee will I cry, O LORD, my rock; be not silent to me: lest, if thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit.”

“…if thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit.” Have you ever experienced this in your life? I guess not, as many of us are very much inclined in exercising our free will, whenever we see God silent to our prayers. While David prayed that if God is silent, he cannot do it; our prayer might have been in this manner saying if God does not answer, then I will do as I will.

When God does not give an answer (is silent), David compares his state to that of a dead person. Think of a dead person, can he stand or move on his own? Can he burry himself? No, he needs people to wash him, cover him with clothes, put him in the box, carry him to the grave and cover him in the dust. In all this process there is not a single thing that a dead person can do, he is completely dependent on others. In the same way David depends on God, realizing that he can do nothing without God answering him.

In the following verses, before he praises God for answering him, David mentions how to prepare ourselves before we pray. If we approach God unprepared, He will simply drive us away. Sometimes, when we observe that God is being silent to our prayers, it could be that we are in the list of people that will be driven away by the Lord. Who are they? They are the wicked and the workers of iniquity. Remember my friend, you might act a very good person in society, for people you might be the best, but our God whom we approach in prayer is the one who looks into our hearts. Today, as you approach in prayer, what does God see? While the world sees your care and concern for your brother, does God find bitter hatred towards the same brother nesting in your heart?

Prepare yourself by asking God to cleanse you from wickedness and iniquity. We do experience bitter feelings sometimes, but nesting hatred is not acceptable. Take it to the Lord, ask Him to give you the heart of His, which forgave a sinner like you. Be willing to forgive others even before they come seeking for forgiveness. Only then your prayers will be answered.
