Walk Of Life – Day 01, September 2022 – Thoughts From The Book Of Psalms

Psalm 48

City Of The Great King

The title of this psalm is A Song. A Psalm of the sons of Korah. These sons of Korah were Levites, from the family of Kohath. By David’s time it seems they served in the musical aspect of the temple worship (2 Chronicles 20:19). And it is also entitles CITY OF THE GREAT KING

The psalmist began simply describing the greatness of God and His worthiness to be praised. He connected this praise with a place: Jerusalem, described as the city of our God, in His holy mountain.

Great is the LORD: He is great indeed.

· He is greater: For God is greater than man (Job 33:12).

· He is greatest of all: For the LORD is the great God, and the great King above all gods (Psalm 95:3).

The psalmist continues to say that He is greatly to be praised in the mountain Zion and in its beautiful elevation. Mountains no doubt reflect the majesty and magnanimity of the Omnipotent God. It’s beauty makes the person remain spell bound. Not a wonder that David mentions here about the praises of God being echoed out in Mount Zion. David further briefs out the vastness of the mountain as there are many kings who have passed through it and were astonished.

Our Lord who created the mountains is not just the God of the mountains but He is also the God of the valley. His beauty and splendour is not just reflected in the mountains but also in the valleys.

Loving brothers and sisters are you disappointed for being there in the valley? Are you thinking it is difficult for me to climb up the mountain?

Hang on to the Lord who is great and greatly to be praised. His Loving kindness and His righteousness are established in the valley. Count on Him. Continue to Praise Him, exalt Him and make Him as your head and let your priority be to please Him in the month September. Stop trusting in chariots and horses may be in the form of your account balance or your ancestral heritage or education or your experience or your success. Hang on to the Lord. He will surely visit you and take you to His lofty place.

Sing along with me.

For the God on the mountain
Is still God in the valley
When things go wrong
He’ll make them right
And the God of the good times
Is still God in the bad times
The God of the day
Is still God in the night

The last verse of this chapter says

For this is God,
Our God forever and ever;
He will be our guide
Even to death

Surely this assurance is more than enough to carry us through the new month and also through the rest of the days of our life. He will be our guide even to death.

Can we surrender our Life to our great God.

Father we commit our life into thy loving hands. There are many things which we don’t understand and we are weak, tired and worn. Take us and lead us to the lofty heights of life. We ask this in the most precious name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
