Walk Of Life – Day 03, October 2022 – Thoughts From The Book Of Psalms
Psalm 66
Blessed be God, Who has not turned away my prayer, Nor His mercy from me! – Psalm 66:20
This psalm is titled To the Chief Musician. A Song. A Psalm. As with Psalm 65, it is described as both a Song and a Psalm. This is the first psalm since Psalm 50 to not be attributed to David.
The Psalmist renders praises to the Awesome God and he encourages others also to do the same. There are many imperative sentences in the entire psalm like
1. Make a joyful shout to God, all the earth
2. Sing out the Honour of His Name.
3. Make His Praise glorious.
4. Say to God
5. Come and see the works of God.
6. Bless our God you peoples.
7. Make the voice of His praise to be heard.
8. Come and hear, all you who fear God.
Though all the above indicates instructions given to others there are very intimate sentences concerned with the first person that is the psalmist himself as he says
In verse 13 through 16 he confirms “I will go into Your house with burnt offerings; I will pay You my vows, Which my lips have uttered And my mouth has spoken when I was in trouble. I will offer You burnt sacrifices of fat animals, With the sweet aroma of rams; I will offer bulls with goats.”
further he also asks others especially those who fear the Lord to come and hear all the good things that our Lord has done for him which is something very much important for us to learn. When we share everything that our Lord has done for us to others it helps us to glorify our Lord. Secondly, it increases the faith of those who hear.
If I regard iniquity in my heart, The Lord will not hear. But certainly God has heard me; He has attended to the voice of my prayer. Psalm 66:18,19
My dear brothers and sisters, there are many other reasons why God never answers our prayers and one reason that we understand from this psalm is if there is any iniquity in the heart the Lord will not hear. Shall we introspect with this thought today? Do we have the assurance like this psalmist that certainly God has heard us and has attended to the voice of our prayer.
If not shall we ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the hidden sins or iniquities so that our prayers are answered.
But the honest truth is recorded in verse 20. It’s neither because we are holy nor because we are righteous but it’s because of the mercy of the Lord that is never ending upon us He answers us when we call out his name. Oh reader, you can count on Him. Try Him today if you are really desperate. He will reach out to you. He will turn your struggles into praises. Amen.
