Walk Of Life – Day 13, October, 2022 – Thoughts From The Book Of Psalms.

Psalm 71

“O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to everyone that is to come.”

David’s desire mentioned as his prayer to the Lord in this psalm is amazing! We live in the world where people from different age groups, irrespective of the financial status they hold, have many desires. Now, if you ask the person sitting next to you what their desire is, you would be receiving a variety of answers. Mostly the desires would relate to career, fame, riches, luxurious life, happiness, joy, peace, etc. if at all you ask any believer, the answer might be having a little spiritual touch – ‘the desire to please God.’

As a child of God we all have this particular desire of pleasing Him. Our spiritual journey begins with this desire. We be more cautious in our early days of walk, that in every small thing we check and correct ourselves in order to please God. However, as days go by, we bury this desire with many other desires that get added to our lives. There is a day of comeback where we realize what our desire used to be and start from the day one again. However, the desire never changes, the efforts do not change, as the picture in our minds carries only “Only Me + My God”.

David’s desire teaches us the progression in the spiritual thought. Extension of our spiritual desire boundary, that is, in initial days all we think about or all we are concerned about is our efforts to please God, the concern slowly should extend towards our family, friends, neighbors and so… on. Our desire should not be limited to our perfection alone. We cannot be praying the same prayer of ‘Lord, help me to lead a life that’s pleasing to you.’ Till our last breath. Well, this could be the part of our prayers, but there should be a progress in our desire.

David’s desire is to show the generation in which he lives the strength of God. He even wants to share the power of God to the generation to come. Let us try to read David’s mind or try to think of what his thoughts were while he prayed this prayer. David’s mind must have been thinking about his sons, grandsons, great grandsons and even beyond that. He wanted all of them to know the God whom he knew and served. He is not just mindful of how he knew the Lord and how he served Him and what he has for the Lord in his heart. He wants his generations to be like him, and that is what he is praying for.

Where are our thoughts? When we ourselves are so busy mending our spiritual lives, falling at every step, when do we get the burden for our family, who might have not even started their walk in Christ? Firstly, have a strong determination to follow God. Stop saying that you are not having any concern or burden for them. Cultivate the burden in your hearts, for the Christian life is defined by love and sacrifice, the love towards others, not self. Pray that God may enable you to pass on the desire that you have to please God to many. Pray that your children, their children and their children’s children would be loving the Lord like you do and knowing Him.

May our help, the Lord Jesus Christ, help us.
