Walk Of Life – Day 03, November 2022 – Thoughts From The Book Of Psalms

Psalm 85

This psalm has a pleasant beginning of feeling grateful to the Lord.

1. Lord You have been favourable to the land.
2. You have brought back the captivity of Jacob.
3. You have forgiven the iniquity of your people.
4. You have covered all their sin.
5. You have taken away all your wrath
6. You have turned from the fierceness of your anger.

But after this the tone of the prayer changes. In the first three verses the sons of Korah praises God with all His goodness but from verse 4 there is a contradiction that says

1. Restore us oh God, of our salvation!
2. Cause your anger to cease.
3. Will you be angry with us forever?
4. Will you allow your anger to pass on the generations?
5. Will you not revive us again?

After the series of questions sons of Korah come out with an answer that His salvation is with them who fear Him. and an assuring message that Lord will give what is good and the land will give its increase. If the land has to yield well it should be the blessing of the Lord. From the earth truth will spring forth.

8 I will hear what God the LORD will speak, for He will speak peace to His people and to His saints; but let them not turn back to folly. 9 Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him, that glory may dwell in our land.

12 Yes, the LORD will give what is good; and our land will yield its increase. 13 Righteousness will go before Him, and shall make His footsteps our pathway.
Psalm 85:8-9 and 12-13, NKJV

The Lord is full of loving-kindness and tender mercies to all who will call out to Him for help – and like the children of Israel who so often cried out to the Lord when they strayed from the paths of righteousness, we too can cry to the Lord our God to show us His loving-kindness and to grant us His salvation.

Whether wilfully or through a small series of downward steps, we too can find ourselves straying from the paths of truth and righteousness, but God is ever ready to demonstrate His never-failing gracious love and tender mercies to any of His children who turn from their sin and call on His name for help.

The steadfast loving-kindness of the Lord is not only to be seen in the many blessings that fall from His hand each day, but are also seen in His chastening rod and His corrective discipline. And open to us are His everlasting arms that draw us back from our weary wanderings, our careless backsliding, or our wilful disobedience.

In every season of our lives, whether in pain or in joy, let us call on our Father: “Show us Your loving-kindness, O LORD, and grant us Your salvation.”

Prayer

Heavenly Father, how I praise You that Your loving-kindness and tender mercies are new every morning. No matter where I am or how far I have fallen, You are faithful and just to forgive me of my sins, to cleanse me of all my faults, and to draw me back to Yourself with your cords of love and grace. Thank You, in Jesus’ name, AMEN.
