Walk Of Life – Day 08, December 2022 – Thoughts From The Book Of Psalms
Psalm 105
“Do not touch My anointed ones, And do My prophets no harm.” – Psalm 105:15
Is it not encouraging to read this commandment given by our Lord? He says not to touch His anointed ones and not to do His prophets any harm. Another translation says Dare not to lay hands upon my anointed. What a clear instruction. And the rest of the verses explains about how God reacted against those who touched His children.
Who is the anointed one?
“The anointed one” being described is a regular person who has been specially set apart for God’s plan and purposes. Most often, the term “anointed one” is used in the Bible to refer to a person who has received a special calling from God. There are many such individuals in the Scriptures — most often notable public figures such as kings and prophets.
King David, for example, is often described in the Old Testament as God’s “anointed one” (Psalm 28:8). David also used a similar expression, “the Lord’s anointed,” to describe King Saul on a number of occasions (1 Samuel 24:1-6). King Solomon, David’s son, used the same expression to refer to himself in 2 Chronicles 6:42.
In each of these situations, the person described as “anointed” was chosen by God for a special purpose and a heavy responsibility – one that required a deeper connection with God Himself. As the child of God we are anointed because in Christ we have been sealed by the Holy Spirit. As Paul writes, “And it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, and who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee” (2 Corinthians 1:20-22). We are also told in 1 John 2:27 that we have received the anointing as Christians, which teaches us how to discern truth from falsehood.
There is not a special group of ‘anointed ones.’
It is interesting to note that in 1 John those who belong to Christ are also described as people of truth, light, and love, as well as people who are anointed by God. For if you are in Christ, you are anointed by God and have his full anointing!
Who is a prophet?
Any one being a spokesman for God to man might thus be called a prophet. Thus Enoch, Abraham, and the patriarchs, as bearers of God’s message (Genesis 20:7; Exodus 7:1; Psalm 105:15), as also Moses (Deuteronomy 18:15; 34:10; Hos. 12:13), are ranked among the prophets.
The 70 elders of Israel (Numbers 11:16-29), “when the spirit rested upon them, prophesied.”
Asaph and Jeduthun “prophesied with a harp” (1 Chronicles 25:3).
Miriam and Deborah were prophetesses (Exodus 15:20; Judges 4:4).
The title of prophet was thus a general application to all who have messages from God to men. And now in the new testament period every child of God is a prophet. He or she is the messenger of God. Through us God speaks to the heathen and He also makes us to sleep.
As an anointed person are you living a life of separation? As a prophet of God are you speaking for God and speak about God. IF you realise that you are the anointed one and a prophet no body on this earth will be able to do you any harm and you are preserved for the everlasting life. Our Lord fights against those who try to do harm.
