Walk Of Life – Day 1, February 2023 – Thoughts From The Book Of Psalms

Psalms 125 – Be Like Mount Zion

This Song of Ascents is sixth in the series. One can imagine this to be a popular song sung by the pilgrims on their way to Jerusalem for one of the three annual major feasts of Israel especially while crossing the city walls. Here the psalmist emphasizes on the importance of having trust and dependency in the LORD. He compares them to Mount Zion which is the essence, foreshadowing, and symbolism of the Kingdom of Heaven.

Jerusalem was a fortified city, not so easy to climb nor was accessible by water or ship making it difficult to conquer by enemies. Mount Zion was the place where Solomon believed to have constructed the Temple of God which was in the midst of the mountain range of the Judaean Hills such as Mount Zion, Mount of Olives, the Temple Mount, Mount Scopus, Mount Herzl, Mount of Rest, Mount Hotzvim, and Har Nof.  God declares that the city of Jerusalem will be “a City of Truth” and Mount Zion will be His “Holy Mountain”  as in the book of Zechariah 8:3.

God kept Mount Zion in a secure position surrounded by other bigger mountains to protect it from all harm. For this is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘I am very jealous for Zion; I am burning with jealousy for her.’ Zechariah 8:2. God wants you to know that his Holiness and Truth surrounds you and HE is jealous for you as you are his dwelling place.Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.‘ 1 Corinthians 6:19,20
