Walk Of Life – Day 06, April 2023 – Thoughts From The Book Of Psalms

My mouth will speak in praise of the Lord.” Psalm 145:21

This is a psalm of praise written by David, a fit summary of all he had learned about God during a long lifetime of following hard after the Almighty. This is the last psalm attributed to David and is the last acrostic psalms (in Hebrew) in the Book of Psalms. An acrostic poem is a poem in which the initial letters of each successive line form a word, phrase or pattern. Psalm 9, 10, 25, 34, 37,111, 112, 119 and 145 are acrostic poems out of which five are written by David. “In Jewish practice this psalm was recited twice in the morning and once in the evening service. The Talmud commends all who repeat it three times a day as having a share in the world to come”, according to Willem VanGemeren.

In this psalm David praises God for who He is and for what He does for his children.

  • Praise God – First by declaring, I will exalt you, my God the King’; ‘Every day I will praise you’; ‘I will meditate on your wonderful works’, David emphasizes the importance of worship in one’s life. This in turn will build a spirit of testimony in believers.
  • Testify to Family – Secondly David says, ‘I will proclaim your great deeds’; ‘One generation commends your works to another’, he emphasizes the importance of sharing of God’s mighty deeds to family first. God will work in them through your testimony to open their eyes to the truth. Even Lord Jesus told the demon possessed man from the region of Gerasenes when healed by him to go and testify to his family. “Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.” Mark 5:18-20
  • Salvation through Testimony – Thirdly David shares, how when you share about God’s mighty work, people will be saved resulting in, ‘they tell of your mighty acts’; ‘they speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty’; ‘they tell of the power of your awesome works’; ‘they celebrate your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of your righteousness’; ‘they tell of the glory of your kingdom and speak of your might’. It is evident in the Bible, God chooses one person’s testimony to save others. Ex: Saul who persecuted Christians when had an encounter with Christ on the way to Damascus, changed him to Paul the apostle who then shared the good news to the Gentiles, Jailer believed Paul and Silas testimony and whole family was saved, Cornelius, a centurion of the Italian Regiment feared God and through him a large gathering of people in his house believed and were filled with the Holy Spirit after listening to the testimony of Peter about Lord Jesus.

We all know that the, “The Lord is gracious and compassionate, good to all, trustworthy in all he promises and faithful in all he does, upholds all who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down, is righteous in all his ways and faithful in all he does, is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth and watches over all who love him.” But what is the use if you cherish all the good things for yourself, how can you be fruitful if you do not share it with others.

Lord Jesus shared everything He learnt from the Father with us love, compassion, wisdom, forgiveness. “The Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does” John 5:19. Only then the disciples were transformed in their mind preaching the good news to the ends of the earth. And when this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, the end will come. Matthew 24:14.

So, let’s be part takers of sharing the testimony of the truth to the world before Christ comes to take us to our eternal home.
