God will provide your needs – God feeds Elijah – I Kings 17:1 to 24

MEMORY VERSE “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink…” Matthew 6:25

It is holiday time again and this time we are all stuck at home. We felt it would be a good idea to learn the word of God together. This week we will begin with the story of Elijah the prophet. Encourage you to read the story, answer the questions, you can check your Bible and send us the answers by the end of day. You can do the craft and send pictures to us. You need not have a printer. Draw something similar and then also you can do.

In the land of Israel there was a prophet named Elijah. The Lord was not pleased as the Israelites began to worship idols. God told Elijah to inform King Ahab that there would be no dew or rain for the next few years. And God commanded Elijah to hide in a ravine. This was beside the Brook Cherith. The Lord wonderfully provided for Elijah. Every morning and evening ravens (big crows) would feed him bread and meat and he would drink water from the brook. Just imagine, every single day birds, would supply food, they had no GPS, Elijah didn’t need to remind or check or tell them directions, they would come at the exact time and provide his daily food.

When the brook dried up God told him that a widow from Zarephath would provide him food. Elijah did as the Lord commanded. When he arrived in Zarephath, he saw a widow gathering sticks. He asked her, “Would you bring me a little water in a jar so I may have a drink and also bring me a piece of bread?” The widow replied, “I don’t have any bread – only a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a jug.” Elijah told her, “Don’t be afraid. Make a small cake of bread for me and then make something for yourself and your son. The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord gives rain on the land.”

There was food every day for Elijah and for the widow and her family. Sometime later the widow’s son died. Elijah took the boy to the upper room and prayed to the Lord. The Lord heard Elijah’s prayer and the boy came back to life. Then the woman said, “Now I know that you are a man of God and that the word of the Lord from your mouth is true.” For more details, please read 1 Kings 17:1-24 in the Bible.
