God’s Chosen Woman – Rebekah
Rebekah – God’s Chosen Woman
Genesis Chapters 24 – 27
Rebekah is one of the well-known characters in Bible. Hope everyone would have read about her in Bible. When I was meditating on these chapters really it inspired me to write up about her qualities which I observed. Every one has their strengths and weaknesses and so does Rebekah.
As a woman of God, the greatest thing we can make in our life is that to build up the godly character in us.(1 Timothy 4: 7-8).
Rebekah as a Spinster
- Rebekah was a very beautiful woman.
- A chosen godly woman ( She was the sign for which Eliezer prayed).
- Hard working, kind and helpful (She gave water for the servant and told I’ll draw water for your camels too, until they have had enough to drink, then she quickly emptied her jar into the trough, ran back to the well to draw more water, and drew enough for all his camels. It clearly shows us about her serving character).
- She was very active (She ran and told her mother’s household about these things).
- She was confident and willing ( When they asked about her interest, she immediately said I will go. She accepted God’s will and decided to go).
- Obedience ( Her discernment led her to make the right choice).
- She was watchful.
- She was humble ( When she saw Issac, she got down from her camel and she took her veil and covered herself).
Rebekah as a Godly Wife
- Issac married Rebekah and loved her.
- Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death.
- Rebekah was barren and Isaac prayed for her and God heard his prayer. (A potential husband should be a man who has his focus upon walking in obedience to God’s Word and who seeks to live so that his life brings glory to God.(1 Corinthians 10:31).
- Rebekah was a woman of patience. Patience is always necessary in receiving from God. Patience is human endurance coupled with God’s grace which combines to give us the ability to seek God’s face in prayer, without giving up, until the answer is received (James 5: 7-8).
- She was also a woman who knew when to lean on her husband. This was part of her strength.
- A godly woman should know the weaknesses in her husband and pray about them.
Couples need to lift up one another spiritually, physically and emotionally. When one is down the other can lift the person in prayer. There are times when it is your prayers that will help your partner. Do not allow room to affect or even destroy your marriage. Every human being has weaknesses. We should not resent the weaknesses in our partner but rather prayerfully guard against them.A man who is seeking to be the man God wants him to be will be able to help his wife be the woman God desires her to be and will be able to build the marriage into the union God, he, and his wife desire it to be.
Rebekah as a Mother (Its shows her weakness)
Wrong Attitude
- She gave birth to twins but she loved Jacob more than Esau.
- She overheard what Issac was saying to Esau.
Wrong Ideas
- Rebekah who pushed Jacob, her son, into deceiving his father and stealing his brothers blessing.
- She said to Jacob, Behold, I heard thy father speak unto Esau thy brother, saying, bring me some game and prepare me some tasty food to eat, so that I may give you my blessing in the presence of the Lord before I die.
- She also added, Go out to the flock and bring me two choice young goats, so I can prepare some tasty food for your father, just the way he likes it. Then take it to your father to eat, so that he may give you his blessing before he dies.”
Wrong Actions:
- She prepared some tasty food, just the way his father liked it.
- She took the best clothes of Esau her older son, which she had in the house, and put them on her younger son Jacob.
- She also covered his hands and the smooth part of his neck with the goatskins.
- She told Jacob to flee away .Stay with her brother for a while until his brother’s fury subsides.
- This resulted in great conflict in the home.
Isaac and Rebekah made the same mistake that many parents make; they chose favorites among their children. This is something that all parents should guide against. The results of such actions can cause conflicts in your home that can go on for many years. As a GODLY couple we have to love the children equally. Rebekah was a very good godly woman in her young age. She was prayerful. She has chosen the right way in her life. Being a wife she was humble, loveable, submissive and comforted her husband. But after becoming mother. She cheated her husband. She misled her Child. We should avoid making the mistake that Rebekah made.
“ A born-again believing woman should be a GODLY WOMAN, a GODLY WIFE and a GODLY MOTHER. Train your Children to Grow in the Fear of GOD and teach them to do the WILL of GOD in their Life.”
