The Faith that Dances in the Darkest Storm
Habakkuk 2:4: The just shall live by His faith (KJV); ESV says “The righteous shall live by his faith.”
Habakkuk 2:20: But the Lord is in his holy temple; let all the earth keep silence before him (KJV).
The book of Habakkuk is a classic example of man’s conversations with God, rather a prophet frankly and honestly asking the Lord plain questions, such questions that normally arise in our minds. The typical question is Lord how long…how long will the wicked prosper, how long will injustice prevail, how long will you just not listen? And the Lord’s answers are so precious and I would like to dwell on two that are very relevant to us today.
It is faith that must carry us on and carry us through the darkest storm or the deepest valley. We need to have childlike trust in a living Savior who will take care of us and always believe that the Lord is in His holy temple, the Lord is on the throne, and the Lord is in control. There is definitely nothing that can happen or occur which he is not aware of. The Lord Jesus says, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. When fear comes along telling you that everything may go wrong, that tomorrow will be terrible, that the next step, the future, is very bleak, and life may become very difficult, turn around in faith and tell fear…”The Lord is at my right hand, I will NOT be afraid”. And tell it categorically with complete trust in your heavenly father who cares for you.
And this faith will lead you to the most beautiful prayer in the Bible or rather the most beautiful piece of worship in the Bible. I love the Living Bible translation of this portion and it reads:
“Even though the fig trees are all destroyed, and there is neither blossom left nor fruit; though the olive crops all fail, and the fields lie barren; even if the flocks die in the fields and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will be happy in the God of my salvation. The Lord God is my strength; he will give me the speed of a deer and bring me safely over the mountains.” Habakkuk 3:16,17
If you were to put that in today’s language it may read “Though the cupboard be bare, the bills coming due, my car just sold to someone, the house mortgaged, and no jobs in town; yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will be joyful in God my Savior.”
Easy to read, but most difficult to actually practice. It is sheer joy, its not acceptance, it is joy that comes from the fact that in spite of all this I look to my God, I know He is there and He cares. I know He will handle it.
- Trust in the Lord as He Is Sovereign (Romans 8:28);
- Trust in the Lord as He is Loving (Romans 8:32, Eph 3:18,19)
- Trust in the Lord as He is wise (Job 12:13)
- Trust in God Because He Is Faithful (I Cor 10:12,13)
Will You Trust in God?
Are you in some deep valley today? Are you facing a great loss or a great disappointment? Has health failed you? Are you frantically looking for a job with no success? Trust in the Lord Jesus. Hold on to Him. He will carry you through. Trust in Him like a child and He will NEVER let you down. Have faith that will help you dance in the storm and put the enemy to shame.
