THE PERSISTENT WIDOW
Scripture Portion / Verses : Luke 18:1-8
Introduction
LORD Jesus Christ clearly specifies the importance of Persistence Prayer in verse1 of this parable.
Explanation
Prayer is the most powerful weapon which God has given to a believer. We have instant coffee, instant loan, instant money, instant recharge, etc., In todays world where we got used to receive things INSTANTLY in one shot, praying with persistence is a challenge to the modern day believer.
Let’s glean few things from this parable.
- Prayers are not always answered 1st time
If some of the prayers are answered after just one prayer then probably we would never learn patience & perseverance in our lives.
- God is a good judge
Widow in this parable is having faith in an unjust judge. We serve a just God, who is faithful and we can put all our hopes on Him. Widow had to pray to the unjust judge out of fear, she didn’t have any promises, hope, from him. In contrary, we can boldly approach the throne of grace, we have promises & hope.
- Praying Persistently
Evidence of faith is the persistence in prayer. Widow wouldn’t have humbled herself to go back to the unjust judge had he answered her prayer in the first shot. Similarly, if our prayers are answered immediately we may not humble ourselves to go back to God again & again.
QUOTE
The value of persistent prayer is not that He will hear us but that we finally hear Him.
