The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel: Proverbs 1:1 (NIV)
A proverb is a simple saying in which truth is hidden. There is lot of wisdom in each proverb. It’s simply like small chunks of wisdom. I always thought how did King Solomon get such great wisdom wherein he covered every aspect of life.
When I studied I Kings in depth and into the life of Solomon, I found the answer. After King Solomon had offered his 1000th sacrifice, God appeared to Solomon in a dream and said “Ask what I shall give thee” I kings 3:5. What a great privilege it is for those who love the Lord. We as children of the Highest also have this great privilege to ask God who made heaven and earth. God says, Ask and it shall be given unto thee, never to forget that our requests should be made according to His will. Do you know how to make God’s will as our will? We see that Solomon had a great mission and vision in his heart and mind after he was made the King after the death of his father David. Even in his dream when God asked he had been mindful of his God-given
Firstly, he acknowledged that God’s great kindness, mercy are most important. His life and position are by the plan and purpose of God. I king 3:6 – Solomon answered, “You have shown great kindness to your servant, my father David because he was faithful to you and righteous and upright in heart. You have continued this great kindness to him and have given him a son to sit on his throne this very day. responsibility.
Secondly, he admitted he was unwise and he doesn’t know how to go about in his new role as a king which shows his complete humility and submission to God. I Kings 3:7 “Now, Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David. But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties.
Thirdly, he reminds God that he is a mere servant who is going to deal with God’s people who are great in number. I Kings 3:8 Your servant is here among the people you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number.
And then he is asking God to give him a discerning heart in other words wisdom to rule God’s chosen people. I Kings 3:9 So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?”
Have we thought about how important it is to have wisdom, some think, it is enough if we have name and fame in this world, some strive for money they think all their problems could be solved if we have money. Wisdom is owned by rarest of the rare. I think King Solomon was wise enough to ask for wisdom to carry out God’s plan and purpose in His life because he feared God and Loved God kept his commandments and offered sacrifices. God was much pleased with his desire that he gave both riches and honor and there is none like him even unto this day wise and rich.
We need to ask God according to His will. Solomon had a desire that is aligned to the will of God which shows that Solomon was a God fearing man, he obeyed God and had a sensitive heart, offering himself to the Lord through his 1000 sacrifices understanding the purposes of his life.
Are our thoughts and desires aligned to the will of God? Do you know the purpose of life? Before we ask God, lets reconcile with God and humans.
If you are assured that you are in the will of God’s plan and purpose for your life never turn back or harden your heart with sin, like Solomon as he drifted away from God at the end though he got the world’s best blessing. How is your heart’s condition today?
