However, Jesus spoke of his death, but they thought that He was speaking about taking rest in sleep.-John 11:13
This verse is in context with Lazarus’ death. The very much loved family of our Lord and they are in a greater crisis. Two sisters and one brother and nowhere it is mentioned regarding their parents. These three constituted a happy family. Martha, the eldest sister very responsible, very hospitable and concerned while the younger sister playful, curious, eager to learn and nothing much can be visualized or imagined about brother Lazarus except that he was sick and unhealthy. One day when Jesus was out of station this unhealthy and sick brother has died and so there was a lot of mourning and weeping. The instant thought is to send telegram to Jesus. I wonder how they would have sent the information but the word of God has clearly stated that Jesus knew the news of the death of Lazarus and He purposefully stationed for few more days like closely to 4 more days.
verse 3 of John chapter 11 says “Therefore the sisters sent to Him, saying, “Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick.” and it continues in verse 6 as “He stayed two more days in the place where He was.” which means purposefully Jesus retained back from going to the funeral service and the verse in between 3 and 6 it says that
“Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus” Is this fair on our Lord’s part? Can He have prevented to go to the funeral. He should have been there immediately on the same day to comfort the sisters and use His miracle doing abilities. But He abstains from that entire scene and the simple explanation that He gives is mentioned in verse 4
“This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it.”
Yes my dear beloved readers, our Lord wanted to make the disciples and every one else to understand that even after his own death he will raise up again just like how Lazarus came back alive when Jesus called him with a loud voice “Lazarus Come Forth.”
In between there was more emotions exchanged along with more teachings explained to the disciples and all that was about the way Jesus will rise again from the dead. He explained to them very clearly that He is the Resurrection and Life. I wonder as a reader of the narration we all of us can clearly understand the picture and those who were with Him failed to understand the fact that at the time of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ that he will raise again from the dead.
Not a wonder brothers and sisters, there are many things that occur now are clearly told in the word of God but still we could not connect them together or we had to run with the world in its own fashion even without realizing that things would be as such. For example like everything gets digitized or with the one world order, everybody having a digital ID and so on. Let us be aware. Let us sense the changes that happens in the world and the intention behind it. Everything that occurs speaks very clearly of one great event that is the marriage of the lamb and a great feast in which we have to participate as mentioned in John 12 : 2
“ There they made Him a supper; and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with Him.”
Lord God our Bride groom, help us to be your perfect bride awaiting eagerly for that day of wedding with you. Amen
