Walk Of Life – Day 03, January 2022 – Thoughts from The Book Of Proverbs – Enter

Enter, Understanding what is right and just and fair

Then you will understand what is right and just and fair—every good path.- Proverbs 2:9

The theme of justice in the Bible reveals God’s loving and upright character, our own failure to act justly, the means by which we can be justified, and the need for God’s people to love justice.

We find in the Old Testament that the terms for judge, justice, and (civil) laws all derive from the same root. In other words, justice is closely related to and administered as an ideal legal standard.

Yet the concept of justice in the Bible covers more than punishing wrongdoing. It includes treating all people not only with fairness but also with protection and care. God calls all people to seek justice for those most vulnerable to suffering injustice. The Bible regularly pairs justice with acting righteously and behaving with mercy, love, kindness, and compassion.

In Micah 6:8 we read ‘The Lord God has told us what is right and what he demands: “See that justice is done; let mercy be your first concern, and humbly obey your God.” Many of the prophets in the Old Testament spoke out against corruption and injustice in the society of their day, because this is something that God hates. The way we treat each other is seen by Christians as a true mark of their commitment to God.

As the children of the right, just and fair God we are called to be right, we are called to be just and we are called to be fair in all our activities. To be in such a way we need the guidance of our just and fair God. As the world that we live in has started to give its own standards. A sin is termed as weakness, an unjust act is referred as getting balanced with the world, Giving a bribe and getting things work done is justified with the proverb “While you are at Rome be a roman.” But be sure A wrong will never become right just because it is done by many. God’s standards can never be compromised.

Dearly beloved our Lord calls us to enter into this new year by understanding what is right and just and fair in every good path.

You shall do no injustice in judgment. You shall not be partial to the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty. In righteousness you shall judge your neighbor.- Leviticus 19:15

Learn to do good; Seek justice, Rebuke the oppressor; Defend the fatherless, Plead for the widow. – Isaiah 1:17

Now therefore, let the fear of the Lord be upon you; take care and do it, for there is no iniquity with the Lord our God, no partiality, nor taking of bribes.” – 2 Chronicles 19:7

Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, And do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles. – Proverbs 24:17

The above listed verses brings out very clearly about the zeal of our Lord in being just and fair and right. May we receive His grace to walk in the way He wants us to walk analyzing our foot steps.
