Walk Of Life – Day 04, May 2021, Thoughts From The Book Of Proverbs – MAY

MAY OUR EYES LOOK STRAIGHT ON

Let your eyes look straight ahead, And your eyelids look right before you.- Proverbs 4: 25

O be Careful little eyes what you see(2)
for there’s Father up above and He’s looking down in love
O be careful little eyes what you see.

We have been singing and teaching this chorus as Sunday school children and now to Sunday school kids. I’m sure everyone will agree as I say that there are lots and lots of ways that we tend to sin with our eyes. Too many alluring concepts that has evolved very quickly. I remember me and my brother waiting for new books for the academic year where we used to flip every page of the book just to see the pictures. Whereas with no schools for more than a year, there are classes taken only for the main subjects but the additional books that were given by the school is totally untouched as now my son has many other ways to quench the thirst of his eyes. It’s not only with this I had a very good breakfast at home and on my way to work a pedestrian crossed me with a packet in his hand and that resembled like a Dosa roll and one sambar and one chutney packet. I craved to eat Dosa so much immediately forgetting that I already had my breakfast.

These are just practical examples to make us realise that our eyes are swift enough to make us sin. We feel jealous on others by looking at what others possess. We lust with our eyes. We shop more than we need just because it’s captivating to the eyes. If our heart is clean we will have a clear eye contact. A straight eye contact increases your personality. We train students to have a direct eye contact with the interviewer. And it’s quite interesting that the verse that we have taken from proverbs says “let your eyes look straight ahead, and your eyelids look right before you.” Neither turn to your right nor to your left.

Psalm 105:4 says, “Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always.” This is what we ought to do. “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” – 2 Corinthians 4:18

Prayer: El Roi God, we come before you asking for forgiveness for letting our eyes to see what it shouldn’t see. Help us to look straight on you and on your kingdom. In Christ’s most holy name we pray. Amen
