Walk Of Life – Day 07, September 2021 – Thoughts From The Book Of Proverbs – Step In

Step In To Keep My Commands and Live

Keep my commands and live, And my law as the apple of your eye – Proverbs 7:2

Josiah, the young lad who became a king at the age of eight stepped in to observe the commandments of the Lord and His law as the apple of his eye. Though his father King Amon and his grandfather King Manasseh did evil in the sight of the Lord and behaved very wickedly, Josiah began to seek the Lord of his Father David. He started the work of cleansing the nation by throwing away all the idols from all over the place at the age of 12 and at the age of 18 he started repairing the temple of the Lord. The law of the Lord is found among the dust and when it was read to King Josiah he tares his clothes and repents before the Lord. He starts to observe all that is written in the word of the Lord. We read about King Josiah in 2 Chronicles 34 and also in 2 Kings 21.

Age is not an excuse to neglect the word of God. The word of God says keep my commands and live and to keep the law as the apple of our eye. Josiah did not have the entire bible. Might be the Pentateuch or just the book of Deuteronomy and the reverence that he had is very much astonishing. 2 Kings 23:25 says “Now before him there was no king like him, who turned to the LORD with all his heart, with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the Law of Moses; nor after him did any arise like him.” Before and after Josiah there was no one like King Josiah to do everything like what he has done. What a great blessing!

Dear child of God repeatedly you would have heard about the significance and the importance of God’s word. We are very much blessed to have the entire Bible in our hands and in our own language. Is it lying in the dust or in your book shelf or in your bed. Our Lord has giving us time graciously to read it and to observe all that is written.

“Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” Joshua 1:8

The Word of God is to shape what comes out of our mouths. The orders and judgments from Joshua’s leadership had to be consistent with the Book of the Law. We may not be heading up a nation, but we are influencing people around us. We are told to meditate on the Word of God.

The Bible, however, is about God and His preferences. When we choose to love God’s law and delight in what He delights in, we unlock a “prosperous and successful” life and so let us step in to Keep His commandment and His law as the apple of our eye.
