Walk Of Life – Day 07, September 2022 – Thoughts From The Book Of Psalms.
PSALM 53
Come back, O backslider!
This psalm reminds us of our school progress report, in which the class teacher mentions about our state with respect to the class, it is progressive or regressive. In this psalm we can see God giving the report of mankind.
While the first verse of the psalm talks about the fool who thinks that there is no God, no one to judge him for his iniquities, continues in sin becoming worse day by day. And in the later verses we see God Himself looking down upon men to see if there are any who are following Him, but He finds none. No one is doing well, all have gone back.
‘Going back’ – this phrase makes us understand that these were not the ones who did not know God, but are the ones who once walked on that way, but now have gone back from it. Backsliders, who slowly drift away from the way where they once belonged to.
There were times in the past when the backsliders were identified by their absence in the Church gatherings. However, a backslider these days could be seen sitting right beside you in the congregation, singing the songs and participating in various activities too. Physically they appear to be very closer, but their hearts are far away from God. Matthew 15: 8 “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.”
One might be an active member in an assembly doing all the works, but his ways are not right when God looks at him, then he is a fool in God’s sight. We can fool people, but we cannot fool God. There is salvation out of Zion, the house of God. Come back to the Lord leaving all your wicked ways, for those are not for us, our way is in the Lord Jesus. His Holy Word shows us the way at every step. Only then can you experience the eternal joy. There might be many who keep tasting luxury on this world by doing wrong, this should not tempt you my friend. For our joy does not rest in doing iniquity, but it rests in doing good, even if we get troubled by doing so.
God is watching us. This reminds us of the old Sunday School song – ” On be careful little eyes what you see … For the father up above is looking down in love… oh be careful little eyes what you see…” Whatever we do from today, let us remind ourselves that there is God who is watching us. It helps the born again to keep themselves away from the filth of this world.
