Walk Of Life – Day 09, June 2022 – Thoughts From The Book Of Proverbs

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. – Proverbs 9:10

My dear children, you should be engaged in getting ready for the new academic year. We had been focusing on gaining wisdom for the past two days and today our Lord is reminding us about the secret of gaining wisdom and understanding. That we need to fear the Lord in order to gain wisdom.

What does the phrase “the fear of the Lord” mean? The word “fear” used by Solomon means “to have a deep reverence and respect for the Lord.” Literally, we are “to be awed and humbled by His presence.”

Oswald Chambers has said,
“The remarkable thing about fearing God is that, when you fear God, you fear nothing else; whereas, if you do not fear God, you fear everything else.”

Proverbs 9:10, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”

Proverbs 10:27, “The fear of the Lord prolongs days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.”

Proverbs 14:26, “In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.”

The fear of the Lord produces the greatest possible life that any person can ever live. There is no better life on earth than a life lived in the will of the Lord! To put it very simply, walking in the fear of the Lord is your individual decision.

If you fear Him, then you will want to honor Him in everything. He will be paramount in your life. It is easy to see those who walk in the fear of the Lord. His church is a priority, prayer and everything God says in His Word takes precedent over one’s personal will and desires. The Lord’s way becomes the only way!

What Does ‘The Fear of the Lord Is the Beginning of Wisdom’ Mean for Us?

1. Fear of the Lord gives you the wisdom of humility.
2. Fear of the Lord gives you the wisdom of minding the company you keep.
3. Fear of the Lord gives you the wisdom to accept your limitations and heed correction.

Saul, the first king of Israel was from a humble origin, and the Lord exalted him to the greatest office of the land. But he will not listen to God; he was extremely disobedient, arrogant and had no discretion or discernment. The kingship of Israel was taken away from him and given to someone better than him. At the end of his life, he said this:

“I have played the fool.”

In our personal lives too, we have made decisions that caused us enormous pain in life, and we look back and we realized it was our foolishness, lack of wisdom, discretion, or lack of sound judgement, or disobedient to God’s will. Wisdom is the core of our successful existence if we want to survive and reach our goals or visions in life. But many a time, we ignore that which is paramount for us to succeed in life –wisdom and go after self exaltation, money and arrogance. Eventually, we tumble and fail to achieve our destinies and goals.
