Walk of Life – Day 10- December 2020 – Thoughts from the Book of Proverbs

JESUS CHRIST – THE BREAD OF LIFE

The Lord does not let the righteous go hungry, but he thwarts the craving of the wicked. Proverbs 10:3

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. John 6:35

Imagine the scene. The Lord Jesus Christ has been preaching for several hours and at the end of his sermon he realizes how huge the crowd is. It is lunch time and He has compassion on the great crowd. He immediately uses the five loaves and two fishes and mutiplies it to feed the 5000 men and in total many more as there were women and children also. Christ, at that point in time was concerned about the physical hunger of the crowd. When after that he realized that many people began to follow Him more for the food, he spoke to them that He was the Bread of Life that came down from heaven to satisfy not just our physical hunger but our spiritual hunger.

These days with the pandemic around and more and more people in isolation, the number of suicides are rapidly on the rise. It grieves so much that young people are taking that extreme step because they find no meaning in their lives anymore. So many people have lost their loved ones unexpectedly, so many have lost jobs, so many have changed their professions just to have those daily meals. And when nothing seems to work, the emptiness and void is depressing. There are so many programs these days for mental health, meditation, yoga, mindfulness and so many more. We begin to feel that something will fill that emptiness, that loneliness, that depression. Remember my friend, the Lord Jesus is the Bread of Life. He is the only One who can satisfy the deepest longings of your soul.

There are so many stories like Nicky Cruz and Stormy Omartian, people who tried everything to satisfy that emptiness, to fill that hunger within. They discovered that it was Christ and Christ alone who could fill the void and give them the peace, joy, and happiness that nothing in this world could give them.

The Lord will feed us with the Living Bread from heaven if we have the desire and the hunger. In today’s day and age, we seem to be longing for so many other things other than the Word of God. We think we know the Bible inside out but we do not realize that the manna that was given to the Israelites had to be collected each single day. You cannot keep it stored up. Similarly we need strength for each day, daily bread for each day from the Throne of God. It surprises me that many people I come across do not have a very meaningful quiet time. It is very important to sit at the feet of Jesus and feed on the Bread and drink of the living water. The Word of God alone can satisfy us, answer our questions, lead us, guide us, and take us through life.

“Jesus is the Bread of Life, He’s the only one to satisfy
our every spiritual need He assures us He’ll supply.

That gnawing in our souls, the hunger and the thirst
He will fulfill them all when we seek Him first.

Jesus is the Bread of Life, He promises to deliver
all our spiritual desires when to Him we surrender.

His life and His death, bought all our worldly strife
now by faith, through grace we have everlasting life.

Jesus is the Bread of Life, He is all our soul’s need
when we follow Him . . .our hearts He will feed! – Deborah Ann”
