Walk Of Life – Day 11, March 2022 – March With The Words Of Jesus Christ

March to Receive Comfort

Mathew 5:4 – Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

The past two years have been very tough. You turn to the phone, there is bad news; you browse the internet, there is news of conflict and war; you watch the TV, some incidents are so heartbreaking. Man is looking for comfort, solace, peace…things happening around us are so devastating.

The good news is that there is peace and comfort at the cross, at the feet of the Lord Jesus. It is really strange that the Lord calls those who mourn as blessed. It is like saying “Happy are those who mourn” and mourning is being sad…the statement itself seems quite contradictory.

Life is a roller-coaster ride of different emotions. Each one of us have had our good times and the bad. Child abuse, job loss, broken relationships, terminal diagnosis, cancer, death, depression…it is a long endless list. Sorrow is inevitable…no one is born happy and lives happy every day of their lives. The Lord created us with the capacity to grieve, to cry, to weep, to feel sorry and repentant. The shortest and most powerful words of scripture “And Jesus wept” still brings peace and comfort to the stricken soul. Peter, Isaiah, and others grieved over their sin. Jeremiah wept over a nation. Jesus wept over Jerusalem. We need to be saddened by what saddens the Lord. Sin must be dealt with harshly and with tears and repentance. What grieves the heart of God must break ours as well.

Always remember there is a purpose in your pain

Remember the story of Gideon? When he broke the pitcher, the light inside began to shine; when Esther broke protocol risking her life, God saved a nation; When Mary broke the alabaster box, the fragrance filled the place…to shine, there has to be a breaking; to spread fragrance, self needs to be crucified at the cross; to be a channel of blessing, the heart needs to be tender, broken, humble, and meek.

The Lord Jesus had to bear, pain, shame, and sorrow to save us from our sins. I love the lyrics of this old timeless hymn:

“I’ve had many tears and sorrows, I’ve had questions for tomorrow, there’s been times I didn’t know right from wrong. But in every situation, God gave me blessed consolation, that my trials come to only make me strong. Through it all, through it all, I’ve learned to trust in Jesus, I’ve learned to trust in God. Through it all, through it all, I’ve learned to depend upon His Word… I thank God for the mountains, and I thank Him for the valleys, I thank Him for the storms He brought me through. For if I’d never had a problem, I wouldn’t know God could solve them, I’d never know what faith in God could do.”

Matthew 5:4 is a very categorical statement. Christ does not say you may be comforted; it is a promise. You will be comforted. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 says, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”

When we go through pain and sorrow in our lives, we understand how faithful the Lord is. We begin to see the bigger picture. When you are confronted with grief, you wonder how you would get through it. But when you rest in Lord, He gently heals; you feel his warming presence that makes you have the calm assurance that the Lord Jesus doeth all things well. And through this experience, you can be a source of hope and comfort to those around you. He heals you so you may heal others; He pours His love into your heart so you can share it freely with others; He blesses so you will be a blessing to many.
