The Lord Jesus Christ- The Truth

Proverbs 12:19 “The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.”

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6

A lie need not be the same all the time; it keeps changing from person to person, time and again. Whereas, the truth stays the same forever. For instance, we cannot alter the universal truth – ‘The sun rises in the east.’ However, we can write three different sentences on the same which are a pure lie. ‘The sun rises in the west’, ‘The sun rises in the north’, ‘The sun rises in the south’. There are many options in a lie but only a single option in the truth.

From verse 19, we can comprehend that a lie leads to chaos, whereas the truth gives confidence and peace. How disturbing it would be when things keep changing time to time. This leads to confusion. And how peaceful and confident we would feel when everything around us is fixed and can never be altered!

Man lives in this world of uncertainty and constantly searches for a surety of his life. Though he looks busy with all chores of life, there is a vacuum in him which makes him feel dissatisfied at the end of the day.

Pascal says, “There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of each man which cannot be satisfied by any created thing but only by God the Creator, made known through Jesus Christ.” The phrase ‘God-shaped vacuum’ grabs our attention. This space can only be filled by God and no one else. Therefore, the truth that man has been searching for ages is God Himself. Now when we realize that we have a vacuum in our hearts which is in thirst of truth, we tend to seek that ‘Truth’. We read in John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the father, but by me.” The Lord Jesus is the Truth that we mankind have been seeking for.

Truth never changes.

There is one thing that can never change, that is, ‘The Word of God.’ We read in Luke 21:33 “Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.” The Word of God is the Lord Jesus Christ (Read John 1:1,14).

And also, in Hebrews 13:8 we read that the Lord Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

How can we be thankful to the Lord Jesus for being the Truth?

We should be grateful for our Lord is the Truth who never changes. For this reason, we are still alive today. Is it not true? We read in Malachi 3:6 “For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore, ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.”

We hear about many incidents that take place in our today’s society. The very children who are raised with utmost love and care from their parents cheat them, breaking all their childhood promises made to love and look after their parents in their old age. In quite a number of couples, wedding vows are broken.

Our Father in heaven, the never changing God, has never altered a word which proceeded out of His mouth. He said that He loves us with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3). He said that He laid His life for us. He said that if we confess our sins, He would forgive us and wash us with His precious blood. He said that He would Himself become the way for us to reach the Father.

My dear friend, none of the words that He has spoken is a lie. He is not man, that He should lie. (Numbers 23:19). What a truthful God we serve! By trusting and believing in the Word of the Truth, we are established. We do not have to waver or feel hopeless. Our hope is on the strong ground, that is the Truth.

It is important to understand that the Lord Jesus Himself is truth. The very fabric of His being is truth. If we profess to believe and obey the Lord Jesus, we need to be true, true to the Lord and true to ourselves. We need to maintain our integrity always. There is no white lie or any other color lie. A lie is a lie. A bribe is a bribe. A sin is a sin. Playing safe, staying neutral, not speaking up for the truth is also a sin. If we know to do good and do not do it that is also sin.

Let us all refrain from the lie that we have been holding to all these years of our life which stays but for a moment. As we today realize that the vacuum that has been in our hearts can be filled with God, the Lord Jesus Christ who is the Truth, let us invite Him into our hearts.

Where Truth dwells, no lie and falsehood can. Dear Lord help us to always maintain our integrity and stand for the truth by thy grace. Amen.

“The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything.”

“I would rather stand alone in the light of truth than in the crowd filled with error”

“If you do not stand for the truth, be sure to fall for every lie.”
