Walk Of Life – Day 13, November 2020, Thoughts From The Book Of Proverbs
He who despises the word will be destroyed, But he who fears the commandment will be rewarded. Proverbs 13:13
In Deuteronomy chapter 4 Moses addresses the Israelites and commands them to obey the words, commandments and statutes of the Lord. He begins in verse 1 as “Now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and the judgments which I teach you to observe, that you may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers is giving you.” and he goes on very strongly insisting on the necessity of obeying the words of the Lord. There are many words that are used to stress on obeying the words of God like Observe, listen, be careful, take heed, diligently keep, obey and so on.
In the same chapter he mentions in verse 8 “And what great nation is there that has such statutes and righteous judgments as are in all this law which I set before you this day?” How much privileged are we to have the word of God in the languages that we understand! The word of God is living and powerful, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit and of joints and marrows and is a discerner of thoughts and intents of the heart. When we are blessed with so rich a word, won’t it be our foolishness to despise it.
7.The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;
8 The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes;
9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
11 Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward.
The above 5 verses are from Psalm 19 : 7-11.
Let us cling on to the word with more reverence. Let us seek the Lord’s counsel daily in His word. God’s word gives us encouragement when we are discouraged, it shows us the path to take when we are confused, it gives us the strength when we are weary, it strongly rebukes us when we go astray.
The verse we have taken for today’s meditation from the book of Proverbs tells us gives two options. If we fear His commandment we will be rewarded, if not we will be condemned.
As a daily practice read the word of God and allow Him to talk through the particular portion of the devotion.
It is really good to read many chapters per day but for quiet time meditate on a particular portion say, about 10 to 12 verses and read it repeatedly till the Lord speaks to you.
Take time to pen down the thoughts.
Pray in line with what the Lord spoke through you. If the Holy Spirit has pinpointed any of your mistakes confess your sins immediately. If He has counselled you thank Him and abide by that counselling. If there is a promise given to you hold on to it and proceed.
Stop relying on one verse from the calendar and the devotions that comes through social media. Yes, the Lord speaks from anywhere but there should be a spiritual discipline that has to be followed.
Memorise the scriptures. Age is not a reason to be told to keep us away from memorizing. Seek the help of the Holy Spirit. Fill your mind with the scriptures
Reading and meditating the word of God makes us wiser than our enemies, our teachers and our elders as we read in Psalm 119 : 98,99,100.
May the Lord who is the WORD reveal unto us more secrets hidden in His precious treasure.
