Walk of Life, Day 14 – August 2020 – Thoughts from the Book of Proverbs.
The simple believes every word,
But the prudent considers well his steps. Proverbs 14:15
As I was meditating on this verse, God reminded me about an incident that happened in my own life. During the early days of lockdown I received a message from my colleague who was working with me few months back. She was our Director’s personal secretary and she used to approach me for various information purposes while preparing reports or any other documents for my director and so she became little close. Suddenly, without any reason one fine morning without any prior notice she resigned her job and we had no contact.
During the intense lockdown period, I received a text message from her stating that near to her apartment there are many gypsies staying and as they have lost their livelihood they as a team are preparing food for them everyday. She requested me to contribute for this work and I immediately became very emotional, did not have a second thought transferred the money to her thinking that she has approached only me because I am a believer and was close to her than the other colleagues.
After a while I received a call from an other unbelieving colleague sharing with me about the message which she has received from our director’s previous secretary and the constant pressure that she is receiving from her when she did not transfer the money. Likewise all the other colleagues shared with me their experiences. That is where I understood that she has approached everyone in my college and it’s not for the genuine noble cause but rather for her own profit.
The prudent colleagues of mine did not take hasty decision emotionally but they analysed the situation and they decided what to do.
I, being a believer without having a second thought believed every word and acted emotionally and afterward felt ashamed that I was deceived so wisely. I asked the Lord for forgiveness and pleaded to fill me with the spirit of discernment to understand the right and wrong, the truth and the lies.
In the present days we tend to hear lots of facts and information and even the God’s word is in abundance. 24/7 there is someone or the other speaking and preaching through the media. Let us be prudent to listen and to analyse the scriptures whether are they so.
Acts 17:11 says “These(Bereans) were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.
This should be our attitude while we receive the word of God, being far minded. The same thing applies to the secular messages as well. The authenticity of every message has to be tested and proven.
May our Lord fill us with the spirit of understanding so that we will be prudent considering well our steps.
