Step In To Build Your House

The wise woman builds her house, But the foolish pulls it down with her hands. -Proverbs 14:1

There is no other job that presents as many opportunities for shaping (for the good or the bad) the future of our country – of our world – than that of a homemaker. Each of us is a homemaker. Whether you work outside the home or stay home full time, you are a homemaker. Whether you live with a big boisterous family or it’s just you and a couple of children – or just you and your husband – or even just you -, you are a homemaker. We’ve all been called to the ministry of homemaking.

If you are wise, such as the woman of Proverbs 31, you will apply this wisdom to the building up of your house. Your family will prosper. Your husband will be respected and will love you for it (generally). You will lovingly raise up the children along with your husband, you will manage the details of the household, you will bring a quiet and godly spirit into the home, which will be a haven of prosperity, safety, and love.

But if you are foolish, your world will fall apart, and your own hands will be to blame.

Here is encouragement and a warning to women. You have a tremendous opportunity to build a family and estate that will be to the glory of God and profit of others well into the future. It is your choice to be wise and to build. Forsake the foolish and prosper (Pr 9:6). A wise woman can greatly improve a marriage, family, home, and estate, even into future generations. A foolish woman can ruin all of this and destroy her legacy. The opportunity is very great for every woman that will appreciate this encouragement and warning from God and Solomon. A woman is either a crown to her husband or rottenness in his bones (Pr 12:4). This difference cannot be hid from the eyes of others, for his shame comes from them witnessing his curse (Pr 27:15-16). A husband’s flattery is of little value when others can easily witness a wife’s neglect of him, the children, the house, or the estate (Pr 24:30-34)

A wise woman can be identified by looking at her husband, children, house, balance sheet, her appearance and above all by looking at her soul.

As a wife, mom, and homemaker I’ve made a lot of mistakes and there’s so many things I wish I could go back and do over! Unfortunately, that’s not really possible. All I can really do is move forward and try to do my best right now. Homemaking is so much more important than our society wants us to believe. And as women who have been called to the ministry of homemaking, we have a special honor and responsibility to care for our homes.

This proverb is true as gravity. If a woman compromises her duties, her family and estate will amount to little (Pr 11:29). But if she applies herself wisely and diligently, there will be a lasting influence for generations (Pr 24:3-4; Ruth 4:11-12). The opportunity here is so great, and the rewards so pleasant, what woman would not leap at the offer of this proverb? Though tired today, make the investment, for future joy is coming (Pr 31:25).
